Yes, my Grundig got its update last night, the box was in standby this morning, subtitles can be accessed by pressing the help button now.

Does the box need to be connected to phone socket for update to take place ?

When one goes home, is there a way of checking if the box has been updated ?

Do you need to have a sub to sky to get the latest update. I use my Grundig as a FTA receiver. As yet no update.

Nope - just hang on, mabe your model hasn't been updated yet.

Nope - the upgrade comes in from the satellite. To check if you have the upgrade, press the "0" button - does a speaker icon appear? When you press Help while watching tv, does a Subtitle and Narrative bar appear? If not, you haven't got te update.

    Now on 3.3a.6

colm80 - are you using it for BBC n' stuff or pointing at a different satellite like hotbird ?

Don't force an upgrade it's not worth the risk. maybe some one more knowledgable will be along to tell you if it's worth tuning to SKY News or leave it in standby or something.

I have it for the BBC ok. I will take your advice not to force a download.
It may get the update tomorrow lets hope.

What does the speaker symbol actually do?

Its meant to be for the new radio section, later in the year when the EPG overhaul is done, all the radio stations will be accessed by first pressing 0 then the 3 digit number for the station.

My Grundig box got the update yesterday afternoon. No problems so far.

It doesn't seem to have the teletext problem that others have mentioned (but I think that was specific to Panasonic boxes). Aertel still works here anyway.

That problem appears to have settled down - perhaps they've changed the way in which teletext signals are transmitted.

My Grundig box has still not updated :(

The box doesn't need to be connected to the phone line. If you aren't on a subscription then best not to connect the line. If you have an FTV card then under you risk getting it disabled if you connect the phone line !

Until someone gives a definitive answer I'd say leave it tuned in to SKY news (or one of the Sky channels) and powered on over night (standby may do either) - if it is unplugged then it won't pickup the signal.

The main changes are that if you press the help button you get the option for subtitles. Services - 4 - 5 - EPG version should be 3.3.a.6 (My Model no is 2.75d)

Should I be worried at this stage if my Grundig box has not yet updated?? or are there others out there without the update still??

    Colm80 (and others),

Do you unplug your box at night?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 234 ✭✭Colm80

No i leave mine on 24/7 and left on a sky channel. Im just concerned that i dont have a sub on this box. But as chorus techy says i dont need one. So i will have to play the waiting game.

No leave it on at night and have left it on Sky News for the past week or so.

Dunno, I don't suppose it is going to enhance my viewing pleasure wildly in any event...

I have the full SKY sub on mine, and I still don't have the update. Got the box in Dec. 2002.
