    Have only noticed it now...

RTÉ One - 101, RTÉ Two - 102, The Den - 601 are all available in widescreen now, looking very good. :)

    May depend on the program?

    Are ads going out anamorphic?
Are stateside programs like "Lost" going out anamorphic?

What are you seeing in 14:9 letterbox?

 Don't know what they're playing at now, was fine earlier but now it seems it's back to the old analogue feed.

.... & yes, all programming was in w/s, incl. ad's, bumpers, w/s shows etc.

    Hope it's back later....

    It was anamorphic?
    Or was it letterboxed?

Both, whichever you chose in the screen format menu.

I wonder are they testing the new fibre link they were supposed to be building from RTE to NTL HQ? Or maybe they're just pulling in and re-converting the satellite feed from Astra? I'd say they'd only be testing at this stage anyway...

any word on when chorus digital will take the rte widesreen feed. I doubt if they will ever change bbc utv and c4 over to the sky feed as it could be a rights issue thing. Have to say I have the ftv card with itv and c4 on sky and there is absoultely no comparision to chorus digital picture of those channels . the sky ftv picture is 10 times better and so is the sound. so that would be one think I would hope chorus do . then I might consider getting chorus digital.

Rights issues?! Nah, sure they pull in BBC3 and 4 and the rest from a satellite feed - AFAIK, the Irish & UK terrestrials are all MPEG converted analogue feeds and there doesn't seem to be any intention to receive otherwise so no widescreen for the moment...

ok thanks for that. I just assumed it was for the same reason sky dont have itv and channel 4 in that they cannot broadcast the satellite signal only rebroadcast the analogue terrestrial signal.

the cable companies use Sky broadcasts all the time when there other feed acts up

AFAIK, so long as they have the rights of the broadcaster, they can take whatever they like from wherever they like. But I really have no idea why BBC 1 and 2 are digitised analogue feeds - with NTL digital, you get the digital versions of BBC 1 & 2 - Chorus give you the analogue ones (even though its digital). I don't know where they pick UTV and Ch 4 up from, because the picture is pretty good for a terrestrial signal!

Certainly used to be the case that Chorus and NTL picked up their UK terrestrial channels off-air at the border from Divis. Chorus had a network to distribute them to their MMDS head-ends, which NTL also used.

On NTL Digital, NTL get the UK channels from Langley. They are certainly all the digital versions, digital subtitling and all. That might change in the future as part of the demerger of NTL Ireland though.
