Can malaria tablets (since they can only be got on prescription) be bought as part of the drug refund scheme. You know the one where a family only have to pay €85 for prescription drugs in any 1 month.
It Would save me a fortune.

I might give it a go.
I on't see why you shouldn't as they are necessary medicine.

I have no idea, but i don't take anti-maleria tabs unless i need it - damn things cause me to hallucinate.

Remember, most anti-malaria drugs can be taken retrospectivly (ie after contraction). This means you can get away with fewer tablets, especially if you're in a group.

Hi SNG, I sussed this out with my GP on Tuesday ... she suggested I apply for this, yes, you can use it towards your Malaria tabs. I'll be needing a 2 packs, cost €140.00, but should be able to claim back the excess through this scheme.
I phoned 2843574 and they're sending me out the form.

I wouldn't take any chances on what Kasin advises ... I was told to start taking the tabs two days before I go into the affected area, and continue taking throughout my time there, and for a week after.

If you're going into a high risk area and away from a medical centre then that's the thing to do. But assess the risk and ask a doctor with experience in tropical disease (most gp's wouldn't have a clue).

Also, if you plan on driving while taking them then try out a couple before you go. They can have weird affects.
