    Monty, Laser effects and lens glows are nice,
    Background pic is esp exelent.
    But the ships look abit flat?
    is there a light source in the scene?
    try making a wide trangle of either spot, directional or omni lights (play around with it abit) either above or below the the ships with "cast shadows" on.
    You'll have to mess around with the settings abit, on default settings the shading will make them look abit small
