My mate was left with his Dad's car while his parents are on hols.....anyways at the weekend, he was filling the car up with petrol when a truck decided to crash into the rear of it.
Just wondering if anybody would have any idea of the cost of repair?
It's a '98 Ford Mondeo Hatchback. The rear bumper is going to need replacing. The back boot is badly damaged and the rear passenger wing is also badly damaged.
The car is worth €4k max & I reckon the cost of repair is going to be something similar, thus writing off the car.
    What do you guys reckon?

Got insurance details off the truck driver? Witnesses?
I assume his parents knew he was driving the car? :)

The truck driver is 100% at fault if the accident is as you describe. I wouldn't expect a reliable estimate of the damage from someone on the internet who hasn't seen the car - I bet it needs a lot more than you reckon.

i presume he's insured on the car yeah? did he get the other drivers details? why hasn't he brought it to a garage for a quote?

Check the floor of the boot for any damage and also the chassis legs, if these are damaged in any way it will need to be pulled and alligned making it quite expensive to repair. A new bootlid, rear wing and bumper alone will cost serious bucks.

Yeh he exchanged insurance details, his girlf was sittin in the car at the time and it was all caught on the garages CCTV.
And yes his Dad did know he was drivin the car and he was fully insured etc...(although his Dad had relunctantly put him on the insurance before he went on hols so it's gonna be a "told ya so" situation" when he gets back)
The rear wing runs the entire length of the car above the doors and along the sill and is welded to the chassis so I'm guessing it would cost a fortune to repair

I fail to see what the problem is, this should be covered by the truck driver's insurance.

Remember to get a copy of this, as they may tape over the footage after a month or so: I don't know what the policy is, but rather safe than sorry.

Well, it shouldn't be. Your mate is not to blame at all. Let us know about the assessment anyway. Let's just hope his dad doesn't loose out in any way

Well anyways.....turns out his Dad knew a guy who works in a body shop who could do him a good deal....so it's gonna cost circa €1,500 to repair the damage.
Personally I would prefer to have the parts replaced by a main dealer if someone crashed into me but he seems happy enough to go along with that so saga over :D
