Paper 2 was just perfect. I didn't do A quality but a high C or B is in store for me hopefully.

ONLY studied dickinson beforehand, and BOOM! She came up, worked backwards on paper 2, seen poetry, then unseen, comparative then hamlet. All worked out well, let myself down on hamlet but overall im pretty happy with how I did.

    Paper 1 was ... well, paper 1. I did text 2 section A, text 3 section B and i did essay 7 (a) and used picture 3.

    Overall today wasnt bad.

I almost wet myself when I saw Dickinson and Boland. Getting that got me off to a great start, did a good essay on Dickinson, Hamlet was great (did the 1st Q on the appeal of Hamlet to a 21st Century audience...best question I could get, I used every quote I knew) and my Compariitive was at least good enough to get half marks for it.

Paper 1 was alright, I'm not to sure about the length of some of my answers. I did the Diary one for Q B, and was only doing around a page per diary entry (I couldn't figure out how to do any more! I was pulling everything out of the texts, there just didn't seem to be enough for me) but my A Q was fine (did the Celebrity lifestyles one)
And I went off on a rant about Iraq for the personnal essay.

So yeah, good paper. Reckon a C1 at worst, which is alright. Let's hope the rest are like that.

Still half an hour left to go on paper 2. I'd hate to be back in there now. I left an hour early. Got to do maths now!

    I think I got around a B2 for Paper 1.

For Paper 2, I left about 40 minutes early, and yet I think I got an A1!!!!! :D

The exam was simple. For some reason a soon as I entered th exam hall I needed to take a leak! That motivated me to write fast. I was dying for a p1ss the whole way through both exams! I'll no longer be drinking water in between the exams.

Thank christ I'll never have to write about hamlet ever again!

Just back after doing both papers

My essay was great 6.5 pages i discuss it here

I did q. a on sect 1 wrote over a page for each question handy enough hard to do 20marks worth for last q. though i discussed violent imager/ appeal to sense of taste /smell

For sect b. I did the ist photo
    discusses
    shows emotion/love
horrific nature of war as they are split up
the humanness of soldiers (is that a word?)
and how it poses the question, how can we let this happen.

    Paper 2. was lovely

Loved the 1.st lit genre question kept being like It is important to consider..
    I will be discussing..
    etc.
    5 pages

hamlet I did q on weaknesses loved it but may not have discussed his strengths enough
    6.5 pages

Emily Dickinson - great that she came up but had to discuss a lot due to q. my impact
    language
    imagery
    her personality
    5.5 pages

The unseen was terrific the healing power/ inspiraton falling from the moon in the form of moon rain! 2 pages

    It certainly is.

But when posting sarky remarks about other people's grammar it's always worth giving a second glance before committing. It saves you from looking silly y'know?

    I'm dissapointed with how I did. I didn't even finish paper 2.

Ach. It was ok, my essay, comparitive and SST answers were reall good, my poetry has let me down big time, the rest...well...meh. Should be good enough to get over 75.

Congrats to all you people happy with the paper, but wasnt there anyone else relying on Wordsworth coming up? Couldnt believe it when i saw 2 women poets on the paper, what the hell is this an equal society or what?

was really happy with that paper. All in all, it was good.

Hamlet question (1st one) at first was a bit of a wtf, but than i realised i could say anything at all and it would be grand. Hamlets character was also a grand one id imagine.

The department were pretty sound putting, Dickinson Yeats and Boland on. No suprises thank god. Did yeats myself.

General Vision and Viewpoint was grand. All preprepared so was grand.

Paper one was also ok. Did ques A on the Butcher one, and B on the letter to the photgraphy magazine. Essay was on the obsession of people with celebrity.

Was pretty damn happy all in all. Worst over with now. The first was always going to be hardest!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 361 ✭✭Con9903

How long did you spend writing your essays. I wrote my essay in an hour. It was 6 pages. Paper two was grand too.

Thought the papers were o.k and most of it went fine except maybe comparative - but i always hated that question anyway! :D

I did well, wrote a rubbsh essay though. I wish I made a plan out for every question at the start because by the time I got to the poetry question I just got a big blank on Yeats, even though I had been studying him all year and should`ve been well prepared. So i wrote on Dikinson instead, but forgot alot of detail for "A slant of light"

No man it should`nt have been on the paper. They tell us that there are other papers at the ready if there is a leak of the origional paper. Why not do this? A girl was killed from Junior Cert that tragic day, imagine if you were a Junior Cert in Loreto, Navan and you saw that come up? Its hard enough as it is, I`d be shocked if that came up in the leaving.

I go to St Pats Classical School, Navan by the way.

Why should there be uproar about an essay about travelling on a school bus yet absolutely no problem with essays about war and conflict? Tell me that.

well then thats the point, isn' it? Sorry but i really think it was an awful mistake. Especially knowing they could have changed it. I think this was very disrespectful and apology should be made.

I understand where your coming from, there are 100s od victoms of war everday.

However this accident was closer to home and its only natural that something like that could hurt people more than war. Remember the accident only happend over 2 weeks ago.

Put yourself in a 15 year olds shoes who has just lost one of their friends in a school bus crash. What would your state of mind be going into an exam?

You all shouldn't be so concerned about how many pages your essay was. A 2.5 - 3.5 page essay is an ideal length. Quality rather than quantity...

This is exactly the same way I reacted to the test, Great minds think alike, I couldnt of asked for a better paper, The hamlet question let you basicly pick the question, I was dreading this test but i had nothing to worry about

    2.5 pages wouldn't be sufficient.
Personally I think they're making a big deal about the bus question. But they probably should've used another paper just to be safe.

I thought both papers went really well for me. I thought the choices for the comprehension on paper 1 kinda sucked, there was no way I was going to write about wanting to interview a stupid celebrity, I had great fun ripping apart text 3 in my part A tough (Do you like this style of writing? NO!! I just got into a big rant about how crap and badly written it was) I thought the essay titles gave us a nice choice as well.
Paper 2 was lovely, in my opinion - I was so happy to see that Dickinson question, as I had all my quotations perfect for it. The comparative was predictable and quite straightforward, the Hamlet questions were a bit strange but doable. Overall, I was very happy with how English went for me!

i thought the paper was kinda easy, so they'll prob mark it hard. comp choice imo was good, i wrote about 4+1/2 pages on the other peoples expectations, was pretty good aswell. dickinson came up, a total relief, knew her like the back of my hand

just curious how u criticised the writing? i didn't think it was great at all either, but felt it was easier to support than criticise.

What I don't get is why people say "oh I wrote 6 pages for my essay."
My essay was less just over 3 pages, but it had nearly 1000 words. A friend wrote over 6 pages, but they write about 6 words per line, so I probably wrote more than him. What's your average words per line? That's what you go by, not how many pages you wrote.
In the Ed-Co exam papers it says the average for an essay is 750-1000 words. But I completely agree with chump, its quality rather than quantity.

Anyways I don't know how I did in Paper Two, I think Paper One was fine, I wrote my first ever non-short story, so hopefully that went well...
But I was not prepared for the comparison and I really don't think I did well in that, and the Hamlet question, although easy, knocked me back a bit, and I didn't do as well as I know I could.
But it's in the past now, roll on next week!
