(FM 05) Good players for Sligo Rovers - needed badly

I've been managing Sligo Rovers for the last season and a half. I got them promoted from the First Division in my second season and I've just started them off on their Premier League campaign. I've started off OK, a win, a loss and two draws. the major problem I'm having is finding good cheap defenders who (a) I can afford and (b) want to come to me.

I really should be top of the table right now, but my defence ( losing two 2 goal leads in consecutive matches - a 2-0 lead lead versus Drogheda and a 3-1 lead away to Shelbourne, drew both) is costing me vital points. Third from bottom will do me for this season, does anyone have any good defenders that can help me out?

PS: Please note that I have a whopping transfer budget of €3,000......

You're looking at loans or free transfers.

Loan 5 players a season, and take them for 12months each.

I'll go back through my transfers later tonight and get a list.

Basically what i do is, search for all players, but get ur assistant manager to filter out unrealistic players.

Try and loan in as many as you can.

You can normally get some past it oldies like Regi Blinker and Tony Yeboah on a free

    Ill post some later.

Since you're a season or two into the game, scour english and italian teams for some of there younger players that are worth around 20k-500k

    Thanks man. :D

Yeah, I've been scouting around for realistic targets for this season. I've plundered two young strikers from Monaghan United to help McTiernan and Mullan, they've started off pretty well. It defence and (to a lesser) midfield that i'm having trouble with. :-/ I'll have a look for Yeboah and Blinker tonight.

Thanks for putting together a list, I hope this isn't troubling you. :)

Just realised that most of my signings are proabably specific to my game.

It would really depend if you can get certain players on loan/free

Check players from the lower leagues in Ireland, you can sometimes find a gem who'll fit into your formation.

You could be better off playing a formation that suits your players.

Players that i got in the first two seasons who were decent are
    Bought:

David Sesa - Palazzolo - Free
    Babangida - Chanhchun - 80k
Ederson - RS Futebol - 170k (well worth it)
    Regi Blinker - Free
    Thomas Butler - Free

    Loaned:
    Ritchie Partridge - liverpool
    Michael Stewart - manu
    Paul Tierney - manu
    Gary Murphy - longford
    Wayne Richardson - villa
    Steven Foley-Sheridan - villa

These are all attacking players which you should be able to get hold of.

Try getting some AFC Wimbledon players as they'll all be 0-3k cause the club was in financial trouble.

Have you got a bunch of youth players yet ?

I dare not speak the names of my youth players, their highest stats in any category are usually around 5, maybe 6 if I'm lucky.

I'm gonna check out that list tonight, see can I survive this season and make a push for Europe next season. I'll check out AFC Wimbledon as well, I forgot about their dire financial straits. As for formations, I play 4-4-2:
    SC SC
    AMC
    AML AMR
    MC
    DL DC DC DR

The AML and AMR support the trident attack, while the MC tracks back to help out the central defence. The AMC is instructed to join the attack when needs be. It's worked for me so far, and if it wasn't for my defence, I'd be top of the Premier Division right now. :-/

I've tried other tactical formations and they've all met with the same degree of success: nothing.

    Thanks for your help! :)
