    Hello,

I would like to start making short movies.

Can you recommend a cheap professional video camera I should use?

    Any pointers appreciated.

    Thank you.

    professional does not equal cheap

cheap means you can only buy consumer cameras

to advise you, give some info on what you'll be doing with it. do you need to be able to edit on a pc/mac? what format will you be iutputting your films in? etc etc.... what's your budget?

Will need to be good enough quality to play on TV.

i use a sony minidv dcrpc101 i got a few years ago to edit stuff on my pc. I could never get the hang of editing before until I tried studio plus. Great program. Burned some bits & pieces to DVD and they come out very well. Everything in one box.. video edit, graphics edit, menu creator, dvd burner.. great job. It's about €100 at the moment for the plus version, you can get the normal version for around €35 but it obviously has less features /addons. I'd say get yourself into a sony centre or the likes and try out a few dv cameras. Mine is great except for the inexplicable reason that the microphone was placed on top of the camera, meaning it grabs sound from everywhere. A halfway decent directional mic is a must to cut out some of that dreaded background noise.

Take all this with a pinch of salt, I'm a rank amateur after all :)
