Xbox Live problems

My Xbox Live connection has just stopped working! I'm using eircom broadband and that Netopia modem they give, and the eternet cable. It was working for about 5 months. It tells me that a cable is not connected, but they are. Tried using a mates modem and cable too, but that gave same error message. Could the NIC card in the Xbox be broken? The machine never moves, so I cant see how this would happen.

That would be the first time I'd have heard of the NIC failing.

With the cable plugged in are you seeing any LED activity on the NIC ?

    No LED activity at all.

Happened to me too might be different circumstances though. I found that the DSL Snyc light was not going solid on the modem. Figured out that one of the metal strips in the socket was a bit bent so I found that if you jam your xbox against the yellow cable in the modem, it works perfect :D

Have a look to see if your DSL Sync light is solid.

The DSL Sync Light is solid, but the Eternet Link+Traffic lights never come on anymore. Tried messin with the cables but still no joy.

I'm sure I might be slated for saying this ;) but I have found Eircom tech support to be quite good. I have been through 3 modems so far and they have replaced each one within a week.

Give them a ring, the last time I had a problem with my modem they had a new one out to me 2 days later. But just to warn, you they say it can take up to 21 days. Have never found this to be the case though.

Cheers, was going to try that but checked my Xbox with a mates modem and that didn't work, so thought there would be no point, still might do it though.

sounds like your Xbox NIC is boned. how long have ya had the Xbox? Microsoft might fix it if you have it less than a year and ask them nicely.

Thats what i think yeah, had the thing since it came out, 3 yrs or something, so they wont fix it for free.

thats ghey, i have mine that long too and its kinda on the blink, its an old man x box at this stage. paid the full whack for it before they reduced the price at the start. 450 pounds i think or something like that, egg on the face or wat, so i have to keep it and not tinker with it, even if it is kinda unresponsive at times now.

whack it open and replace th NIC, it should'nt be too hard, MS wont fix it at this stage, and it beats buying a new one.

I opened it, took things apart HD, CD-drive, motherboard, can get at NIC but can't find anywhere to get a replacement. Any ideas? Tried Xbox-scene as it comes highly rated from this forum, and tried google-ing it, no joy.

Hello, this might be a bit late, but I heard that a guy named Perplexer (found on the xbox-scenes forum will do the nic repair. If I remember correctly he charges about $40. I have a broken NIC in my Halo Xbox, but I can return it to Best Buy luckily. Good luck.
