    Hello,

I will shortly be in Rio de Janeiro for a week.

Does anyone have any recommendations of things to see or do there, aside from Ipanema, Copacabana and the Cristo Redentor statue?

    Cheers.

What exactly do you like to see or do ? There's plenty depending on what you like....
If you like night life Lapa has loadsa bars and outdoor street music and Barra also has a few good bars. There's the Feira Nordestina (Northeastern Fair) at Sao Cristovao, which starts every Saturday at 3 and finishes on Sunday at 4. It's a social event where people gather to hear music, eat regional foods, and shop. You can listen to live Bossa Nova music at the Butiquim Carioca in Botafogo or the Severina in Laranjeiras.
If you want to sight see you could go up to the sugarloaf, has a great view of Rio. Or you can go to one of the parks- Tijuca National Park or Botanic Gardens.
You could also take a detour to Buzios if you have time and like diving, sailing, windsurfing, and nice beaches. At night, theres a bar and cafe lined street called Rua das Pedras you can stroll, drink and party.
There are also some museums if you're into that kinda thing like the National Museum of Fine Arts in the city centre or the National Historic Museum.
Since you're gonna be around the Copacabana check out if there are any free concerts on the beach. Last time I was there with another few thousand people for a Lenny Kravitz show.
Oh and avoid "HELP" like the plague if ur a guy looking to score. You might get more than you bargained for eek.gif
    Have fun
