Very quiet but cheap PSU

My computer is really bugging me at the moment. I recently invested in a quiet zalman fan for my Athlon 2000+ and a heatsink for the northbridge. Turns out though that most of the noise is coming from my powersupply. Has anyone got any recomendations for me. I want a really quiet psu thats relatively cheap.

    What's cheap?

I have a "be quiet" PSU and it's very quiet and a high quality PSU. Check www.hitide.ie for prices.

Sorry, meant quiet, not quite. I was hoping around the sub €50 mark but i'd be willing to pay a bit more.

@Khannie im just looking at that site here, they have ultra silent 1 and ultra silent 2 with bout €5 between them. I think they're is two fans as opposed to one in the latter. Is it worth the extra money?

I've a beQuiet PSU as well - got it on Khannie's recommendation a few months ago. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

I assume you mean the 350W versions. They are 1 fan and 2 fans respectively. The 2 fan one will keep your system cooler. But you should look at how much power you need as well. My 300W psu was really struggling under the requirements my rig had and that was the reason it was so loud. 350W would be low power for an Athlon XP. What else have you got in your pc and what do you use it for mainly?

For example, when I was playing UT2K4 with the 300W my psu went crazy as the gfx was hitting the power hard.

Also, there are number of psu's on the page with increasing wattage....and price. What would ye recommend for my system.

    Athlon XP 2000+ (I think it's a thoroughbred)
    Geforce 4mx
    512mb pc2100 ram
    Gigabyte 7dxr+
    160gb seagate baracuda
    NEC 3500A DVD burner.

@Macros42: I use it mainly for browsing, music, films and coding...like playing emulator on it too, rarely use it for native pc games. What do u reckon

350W should be perfect. You don't need any higher.

I don't think you can get anything good for 50, there are Qtec psus, but they are CRAP! never buy them,

plus psu is such a thing, it must be a quality product, cause all the components depend on it, I'd suggest spending more, even like 150-180 but getting a really good psu, cause, if you get something bad and it go south it will take graphics or HDD or cpu or something else with it, and it's gonna cost you more in the end.

with that rig the 350w bequiet would be fine but i would spend as much as you can if you are thinking of upgrading in the near future , i got the
be quiet! PSU BQT P5-470W Ultra Silent 2 Fans PFC and its REALLY quiet my rig includes a
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ , 3 dvd writers , 2 120g hard drives and it barely hums

Best of luck with that :) They're a fine PSU.

Prolly would have paid the extra few euro to get it off hitide myself, but that's just because you can pick it up straight away :) And returns would be easier (though hopefully unlikely anyway :) )

Just installed the PSU last night...unbelieveable. I didn't think it would be that quite. Good call suggesting "be quite". Got a free t-shirt and all.

Has anyone any experience with the fanless PSU's? I have a 120mm zalaman ultra quiet fan PSU but it's only actually ultra quiet when the adjustable speed is set to its lowest setting, which is useless in any modern computer. I'd love one of the 100% silent fanless ones. I'm a bit dubious though, anyone got one of these?

Sure its here. However the postage worked out at €16 eventually. Might be worth getting it off of hitide. It's still bit cheaper off ebay though.
