    hi there,

I was looking to get my hands on a pedal which has drum machine functionality?

I saw a guy play recently with a pedal that recorded loops from his guitar and played them back, and he used it to record a few beats (by banging on his guitar).

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about any pedals like this and how much I could expect to pay?

    cheers

I think what you might be after would be a Akai E2 or Boomerang plus phrase sampler, great pedals but will set you back anywhere between 200-400 euro! If you are just looking for drum sounds maybe you should invest in a cheap drum machine (An alesis sr-16 would prob go for less than 100 euro these days second hand) which could be controlled by a cheap footswitch to stop/start it.

thanks! I just googled some info on the alesis sr-16 and it looks to be affordable piece of kit, does anyone know if it generally comes with a foot switch? and if not is there a generic foot switch one could buy for it? or would I have to get one made by the same company which might be a bit more pricey than a generic one

    cheers

that would be great if you could check that out for me, just out of interest, how difficult would it be to turn on a sample with ones foot if you didn't have a footswitch? the buttons look a bit small for the ol' feet

    cheers

the Digitech RP50 has a drummachine built in. Its just got a load of built in beats that you can play along to.

That's not a drum machine, just a loop pedal. Boss have two phrase recorders, the RC-20 and the RC-20XL (the same thing but with a longer recording time) and these will set you back somewhere between the €300-400 mark. The Lexicon JamMan which is a rack unit that you need to get a footswitch and memory cards for but it sounds very very very sweet. Unfortunately it's discontinued and can work out quite expensive but it really is the bee's knees.
