Hopefully! Great program, DVDShrink gets the job done too

Real shame. I loved that program.

Well, not really. DVDDecryptor had a lot more features than DVDShrink... considaring they are both built for completely different purposes. DVDShrink could NEVER substitute for DVDDecryptor. :(

    Viva la Decryptor.

I suppose DVDShrink did the job for me, when you set it to "No Compression" it does what DVDDecrypter did for me. The IFO/ISO/File modes were a cool feature of DVDDecrypter though. Ah well we still have the last released version of it, it's not like it was updated regularly anyway

Oh well, I grabbed a copy just now, in case.

    RIP :(

Just had a quick look at doom9 and they seem to think Plextor had something to do with it. I seem to recall there being options specially targetted at plextor drives to increase ripping speed but shutting someone down seems a bit extreme for something like that.

Surely that'd be a bonus for plextor. If someone told me they could increase the ripping speed of a drive i'd be thinking about buying, i'd definately get it. Plus, a lot of drives with firmware that limits ripping speed have fixes to remove that limit.

That limit is there generally to keep noise low when watching a DVD, because its only there for DVD-Video discs.

If it is Plextor, it's possible that they were being pressured by another source to recall/fix this "bug" on all of their drives, but Plextor's legal team decided it would be cheaper to prevent this from being a problem by removing the software which did it.

    </theory>

    i thought it was sony

Its a pity, but a few other programs were taken up by "outsiders", and the work continued, abeit under a different name.

Also, I found this amusing. Directly under the article was an advert:
Advert: Find the best online DVD rental plans. Huge database to find the cheapest plan that fits your needs, user reviews and rating.

sad day (again). there's been a lot of those recently.

looks like this is a genuine one though, unlike a certain scandanavian BT site that got me a banning from the broadband forums for a few days!

    oh well.

I would have thought so. Didn't the last update appear only 72 hours after the release of Sony's latest anti-copy DVDs?

    Is 3.5.4.0. the latest version?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭astec123

Anyone know where I can get a copy of the last build of it? Im still on V2 but may as well stock up on the latest one as it will become hard to come by.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

Its available on afterdawn.com. Appparently as they are located in Finland it is okay for them to still offer it.

That would be equivalent to continuing to distribute the software. It could land him in serious **** for "future losses".

However, there's nothing to stop his website being "hacked" and the sourcecode being "leaked".

Tried to download it from afterdawn.com but the file is only 30KB, and then the download manager says it's a html file.

don't right-click, save as, just click on it, if you still can't let me know, I'll host the file for you.

oh and my condolances :( what a great program it was :(

That programs brilliant. Couple it with DVDShrink and you can get rid of those pesky no-skip ads!

Checked last night and under Tools->Settings in the device tab there's an option to 'Enable SpeedRead DVD (Plextor)'. As Seamus said it's very possible somebody else was unhappy with Plextor for providing this on their drives so Plextor decided to prevent anyone from using it. Altough I suppose if that was the case then the option could simply be removed from DVDecrypter and it could carry on.

I hardly think its plextor - much more likely to be Sony as its one that keeps getting stung all the time over the copy protection on the DVDs

    Damn shame though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

ah well, just downloaded the last version to put in a safe place.

any bets on who's next for the chop? ;)

DVDx, AutoGK? is anyone safe?

I just snagged a copy here
Is it illegal to link to the software now? If so I apologise :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

dunno, you might want to re-think posting a link, mods can be a bit hard on that sort of thing if they decide it's outside of whats allowed.

any numpty with a browser and google can find it in seconds anyway, so you might as well take it off and save your bacon. ;)

    Gone already !
You don't have permission to access /downloads/files/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe on this server.
    ...
    DVD Decrypter Download Locations
Unfortunately we were unable to find any download mirrors for DVD Decrypter.

Purely in the interests of research it would be interesting to see how long before they take down illegal links like this.

It's probably whoever owns CSS, the encryption format used on DVDs.
