Whats PCMCIA? Basically my gf has a fairly ancient laptop, and im trying to decide if I should look into upgrading it - adding a cd drive and usb port (if possible), or just get her a decent 2nd hand one.

I dont know, I dont have it here with me. Im not even sure if it has a CD drive - but it has Win98 on it, so would that generally mean that it definately has a CD drive?

The best thing you could do is find out the model number of the laptop and do a search for its specs on the net. The operating system is only a rough guide to its capabilities as the operating system (windows 98 in this case) could have been upgraded at some stage.

For usb to work well you need windows 98se afaik.
