The pros and cons of switching to Meteor?

Im thinking of switching from Vodafone to Meteor in the next week or so as my bills with Vodafone over the past year are insane. Ive been with them about 7 years so Im not taking this lightly, its a big step to go to another company.

What I need is the pros from those with Meteor and who love the service and the cons from those who left Meteor and the reasons why.

I'll be a bill paying customer.

    Thanks

    Con's,

Terrible coverage inside my room, living in Bray
Terrible staff in their stores - especially Dun Laoghaire (sp.)

other than that they are fine.

Ive my vodafone number on thousands of business cards so a pay as you go phone isnt an option with Meteor. Ive just read that their free Meteor to Meteor texts ends on December 31st. I thought it was "free texts for life" if you got in on the offer on time?

No roaming! Dunno if that's an issue for you, but it would be a major one for me.

Coverage is **** if you've anywhere below ground level. Pisses me off in the basement in college .

You also get only 30 free web texts per month whereas Vodaphone get about 300 or something.

You do get free credit (couple of euro each time) every so often if you top up regularly.

    Overall it's not too bad.

I can better that,I had full roaming coverage with meteor bill pay driving from los angeles to Las Vegas.

Meteor have improved a lot.I used have coverage issues with them but not any more.I drove from wicklow to Cork recently and I think I had mostly full coverage all the way.
The roaming in Ireland though where they use O2 to fill in the coverage gaps here, doesnt happen everywhere though, so if you go way off the beaten track or underground you will have a few problems.

Oh and be sure and get a decent Nokia phone, one with a decent internal aerial.
The siemens ones are shoite imho.

they did a deal with o2 to share their coverage so it shouldnt be so bad...

I was with them less than 1 year ago and their coverage was extremely bad. I went with them for a week after leaving O2 who had overcharged me. I couldn't get any coverage in Malahide with Meteor and I was constantly dropping calls. My friends were unable to call me half the time and were directed to my voicemail despite having my phone on (and my handset indicating that I had full coverage). It was appalling. I went back after a week and cancelled my contract. The staff in the shop were cool about it thankfully and I went to Vodafone. The service with Vodafone has been very good so far.

No, Meteor customers get 300 a month too..

I've had very few problems with Meteor, the service is great, the customer service team are really helpful and the online service absolutely kicks Vodafone's arse.

    Really...since when?

Edit: Just checked there. Tells me I have 30 Free SMS remaining this month. Do I have to do something extra to get the other 270?

i got 300 without doing anything

I'm meteor with a nokia and the GF is meteor with a panasonic. Sometimes she has no coverage, (even though the phone indicates she does) and she can't make/receive calls. But me, standing beside her, with my nokia can make and receive calls perfectly.

Free messages is handy too,esp since I know a good few people with meteor phones.

Drive from Kilkenny to Galway has excellent coverage all the way.

    Cons include :

Roaming (register your cc, top up with €60 each time and ring them before you leave ). With o2 and voda you just get on the plane.

Coverage, this has improved (and is actually better than o2 in my house)

Reliability, this can be a bit iffy sometimes (voicemail was down for a few hours last saturday for example).

You can port your 087 number to Meteor pay as you go as well as bill pay.
