I installed slackware 10, configed my xorg.conf with my video card. When I start up X the gnome 2.6 logo comes up.... nothing else... just waits. No errors in the terminal that startx is run from.... Any help?

X usually doesn't dump stuff into the term it was run from unless there was a fatal error that stopped the server from running. /var/log/Xorg.0.log may prove more informative

Do you mean starting x when already logged in using 'startx' or do you mean that the gnome GDM screen appears?

i had something like this some time ago (on debian). the gnome splash screen would show up - after logging in with gdm - and then hang, sometimes not even the splash screen. it turned out to be due to my silly iptables configuration. i inadvertently did it so that even packets on the loopback interface couldn't pass (packets initiating new connections, that is); when i fixed it, x sessions started working ok again.

Koshi i shall try something like that.... if it wasn't for Leaving Cert on Wednesday. Well I'll try it after. I log in at the terminal, startx, splash screen (Gnome 2.6 logo and space where it's supposed to show those things loading) and then nothing.

try starting x with a different window manager. edit ~/.xinitrc (i think) and use twm or fluxbox if its installed. it could be a problem with gnome...
