os lock up

    after i have been using my laptop for a while the network connection dies and the os (windows xp) freezes up it happens after different lengths of time and for no reason.

    Its most likely a failing fan or worse a failed one, overheating causes system instability and eventually total failure.

    the fan shouldn't fail after 10 months, it's still under warranty just about

    well hp have agreed to take the notebook and have a look after telling me that it could be caused by room temp being above 30c - if they can find a bedroom is this country above 30c fair play 2 them

    Seriously have you ruled out spyware - have you tried safe mode with network support.

    its def not spyware, still after xp reinstall and it also happens in mandrake
