    Hey all,

I'm going to buy an electro-acoustic guitar for around €500-600.

Any advice on which brand, model, etc I should go for??

    Cheers!!

To be honest, you're not going to get a great semi-acoustic for that money, but you can get a nice acoustic. My advice would be to get an acoustic, and spend all your money on that, then when you've got more money, buy and install a pickup. You end up with a better instrument for your money.

If I were you Id buy A crafter, Brilliant Quality guitars and brilliant sound of an amp they come with a hard back case. alternitavely, you could get a fender stratacoustic they are not as good as a crafter but they are cheaper.

I'd recommend looking into the Tanglewood solid top range. I can't tell you what the current models are but I've owned two of their super-jumbo bodied guitars in the past 8 years. I wouldn't describe them as a wonderful guitar but with phospor bronze strings you'll get bright (not harsh) highs and rounded, full lows. Give the guitar a couple of years and it'll sound a hell of a lot better as the solid woods age. This won't be true for cheap guitars with laminated back and soundboards.

One of these Tanglewoods was a recent enough purchase and in this case I did exactly what Dave suggested above - Buy a better guitar with what you have now with a decent case to protect it and fit a pickup when you've got some cash to spare in the future. I've just added a Fishman Rare Earth to mine now....

It's a pity I didn't keep the first one I had - It had started to mature quite nicely! I guess I'll have to be patient and wait for the new one to break in a bit more. I think you'll pick up something very similar in Musician with a Hiscox hard case for €550-600

BTW - My other acoustic is a Martin DC15-E which has been maturing nicely now since 1997. I'm quite happy to pick up the Tanglewood in its place for most of my needs so maybe that's a more realistic recommendation!

Gotta love those Jumbo style acoustics. I 'm not a big fan of epiphone but I have played a few nice epiphone jumbos.A friend in cork got a nice taylor for around 500 quid .it said 'baby taylor' inside the sound hole but it was a regular size as far as i recall? nice guitar for the dosh.I'm sure I saw a martin or two in perfect pitch for around 600 as well.

Lies! My mate got an absolutely wonderful Fender Nylon semi for about that price. It's wonder-tastic.

Why would anybody buy a fender nylon acoustic guitar for 5 or 6 hundred quid! Is he deaf? ;)

The tanglewood guitars are the best in that price range. The TW55 is a nice Jumbo acoustic and i thought it was great till i upgraded mine to a martin. Try out a few tanglewoods.

If it were me, I wouldnt buy a crafter... I have heard a couple on stage that just sounded terrible (in saying that Im sure I havent heard all models).

Are you in a hurry to pick up an acoustic guitar? If not, I'd hold off and put a few more euro aside as the weeks/months go on... that way you will pick up a quality guitar that will last you a life time. Also, check ebay or www.chrisguitars.com in the states for some good quality second hand guitars.

Best of luck and happy shopping!

    Hey all,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to ye.

Tbh the guitar isn't for me, its for my friend. I'm sticking with my Taylor 714ce! He asked me to help him choose a guitar.

Did anyone ever try an Ibanez acoustic?? He's dead set on getting a semi-acoustic, so buying an acoustic and later fitting a fishman, isn't an option (unforunately)!
