    Howdy,

    Looking for any suggestions :)

My laptop won;t boot up. It powers up fine but does nothing else what so ever. All the hardware buttons seem to work fine (Goes into suspend when I press the screen down, DVD makes noise etc.) but I don't hear any noises from the hard drive.

But the fact that it doesn't even bring up the menu to go into bios would mean its not a hard drive issue right ? I leave it there for a while and when I come back I hear no noises from it (e.g assume the monitor is out so login but no windows noise)

Anyone know how I could try and find out? I've no idea what sort of warranty I have but I doubt it will cover this as it worked fine before I put it in my bag and came to Ireland.

Just because it won't let you into the BIOS it can still be a prob with the hard drive. Remove the hard drive & start it up, if it lets you into the BIOS then there is a good chance its the hard drive.. Also have you tried booting from a cd windows or norton recovery etc

I mean when it powers up nothing at all happens. The lights come on and that's it. Nothing appears on the screen at any stage. I left the laptop on all day and it ran out of power but I lef the screen down so guessing it probably is the hard drive.

what make of Laptop is it?

Some laptops have the BIOS on a hidden hard drive partition,
a HDD failure can result in the laptop reverting to default settings and disabling the BIOS setup, If you format a HDD you have to download a patch to re-enable the BIOS, you can also force the BIOS to the default values by pressing a key combination (usually Fn + F10) at bootup
