Can't sleep in my bed tonight, spider in my room. Cúnt. Yesterday faced some myself with a hoover, thought I did ok. Tried to get one off my ceiling there now, first time ever I tried in my 21 years without assistance, it fell into my bed and it wasn't dead! Perparing for a night on the couch now, my God, I'm close to tears, I hate them so much!

You have got to be kidding, OK from someone that has yet to find anything that scares them its not a big help. My sister uses the tried and trusted, think of it as your uncle/aunt/worst enemy/something else you dislike and bate the bejasus out of the wee Fecker!

what have you got against you're parents siblings?

what have you got against you're parents siblings?

I dont she does. I prefer to put them in a jar outside unhurt and let them on their way. Hey in the summer months they actually do us a favour, keeping those bloody flies out of the way.

I thought spiders had to make a web somewhere to catch flies ?

In the massive thread about spiders on here recently somebody posted that the spiders in your house are in fact house spiders and putting them outside will probably kill them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

yeah and i disagreed with that. it was a loose comment. back up appraoches so i can't elaborate.

me liking that thought, though not me putting them out there

Spiders are evil, pure bloody evil! and scary... little feckers

I sense an anti-spider vibe. Spiders are cool : they eat all the flies. Good men!

While spiders can be very freaky at times, espicelly at 3am when u stand on them with no shoes on *shivers*. The do us a great job, so let them b i say.

I like spiders. Nice and crunchy if you get a good one.

Which reminds me... must feed that spider by the window in my bedroom... she's looking a bit shrivelled. Must have been awhile since her last meal. Maybe another wingless fly will help? Must wiggle the web to get her attention. Here she comes... oh my! Isn't she hungry? That was yesterday.... and she is still sucking the fly dry. So slow these folk... Yep spiders are nice. Must strike up a conversation with it and see where it goes from there. :p

we sometimes eat spiders in our sleep, amazing yet freaky.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 185 ✭✭Feenikusu

I can understand that. When I have a spider in my room, I can't sleep either. And when I tried to kill it for the first (and last) time it also fell on my bed, and I tried to put it away with a stick, but once it was on the stick I threw the stick on the floor because I was too afraid of the spider coming to my hand. Well, of course the spider came to my bed again...I hate them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,231 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

I dont mind spiders as such, but the bigger they are, ill tend to run away from them, then come back with a glass tumbler and a piece of paper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

I tend to just squash them with my shoe, except sometimes i don't really bother killing the smaller ones.

bog roll, grab spider, flush down toilet

    simple

on the other hand just leave them be as the ones available in this country are harmless

the worst is in my line of work, i have to get up into an attic sometimes, now in the new houses its ok but the old ones, jesus there does be tons of the feckers around hanging in the roof struts of the attic, i suppose thats why im kinda used to them, plus the fact of being on site and falling down the ladder saying owwww theres spiders up there, id be laughed at of the site.

    Brilliant!

I really do feel sorry for people who are scared of spiders, I know how much I'd freak if my phobia turned up in my bed (thankfully sharks don't come in a house variety).

arachnaphobia is one of those things that i think are ridiculous.
the amount of spiders around you right now is huge and you will unknowingly eat oh 7 or 8 of them in your sleep.they are harmless, simple as,and i think it's incredibly cruel for people to kill them as they are just feckin scared of you and are just trying to stay alive!
my rant of the day over^^

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭OLDYELLAR

I cant stand them , they scare the living sh*t out of me and everybodies fear is a big thing to them so no point ranting over it , you may be scared of something others find pointless too , I cant even squish spiders I have to get someone else to do it , jesus im even itchy posting about them :(

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

ah it's np i know sooo many people like you!
the amount of times ive been called round by the girls next door is lol ''it's on the roof''
    so i move it around!
i don't know how regular it is but have no phobias myself.nor do any of my family.
i think that maybe people could get the phobia from seeing a parent reacting to a spider when they're young?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭OLDYELLAR

when I was younger I remeber there was a spider in my room and I asked my dad to kill him , he put the spider on a shovel and chased me with it , I nearly shat myself I could barely breath , ive been scared ever since of em and couldnt sleep in the house if i saw one , They just really really scare me .

no no they dont , itchy!!
    horrible yokes !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

The whole point of a phobia is that they irrational and most of the time the sufferer knows it. I mean, I'm **** scared of sharks but I know there's no way that Jaws can get out of the telly. It still scares the bejaysus out of me. You can't call a phobia ridiculous because it is a problem that a lot of people have to live with. Arachnophobia by the way is thought to have an evolutionary basis, our ancestors came from hot climates with deadly spiders so those that were naturally afraid of spiders were less likely to get bitten and die.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

i dont find it ridiculous persay just that evolution can have such a hold on people as you say.
you are afraid of sharks, sharks can and would hurt you and you have not seen many before, people are scared of the unknown.
so that is reasonable lets say.some spiders are deadly so i believe that if you live in a country where these spiders roam then arachnaphobia is quite reasonable.in ireland spiders are just well around the place and cant hurt you ^^
i only found it ridiculous that people let irrationality lead their lives so much,im sure i do too.

I don't know! They just creep me out!
I think it has something to do with hiding their face with a load of make-up..
or maybe its that Steven King film 'It'? What 'Jaws' done to sharks, 'It' done to clowns..
or maybe because they were so cruel to Dumbo (poor poor Dumbo.. :( )

    I don't know, I just don't know

yep clowns freak me out. people are much scarier than animals. IT is easiestly the most scary film ever. Yeah, poor dumbo.

He flew in the end Kev, he flew in the end!

I guess clowns are ok so long as they don't have sharp yellow teeth, roam in the sewers luring small children to their death or kill you in your dreams.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

Yep can't disagree with that. Damn I really wish I didn't start thinking about Stephen King's IT. I was going to go back to bed.
