hey. i accidently knocked out my monitor cable from the back of my pc the other day. i just plugged it in again. but when i turned on my pc and once it goes through the usual memory stuff at the start and it says "loading windows 2000 pro", once the OS is supposed to start the screen shuts off and goes into standby. i had problems like this with some games on my monitor but that was becuaseof the monitor but i tried the other monitor this too and i have the same problems.

anyone know whats wrong and even better how to fix it?

Maybe the graphics card isn't seated properly and is causing the monitor to go into standby?

Check if you damaged any pins when you knocked it out.

you most likely bashed some of the pins out or the graphics card got loose.

Try booting into the bios. If it does that fine then it's not a hardware problem.

Well the fact your seeing the POST screen followed by the Win2k boot screen tells ya hardware is fine. Boot into safe mode (hit F8 on boot) and see if you get a desktop. If yes, remove the video card from device manager and reboot. Have the driver for the video card handy incase it prompts you for it.

When you say it stayed still, do you mean it shows nothing, or does a load of text come up?

What is the last line of the text that does come up, it'll probably end in .sys or .ini

Could it be automatically shutting off because of overheating? Either that or refresh rate problem...

i dont know what it is. apparently it could be the graphics card but i dunno how to fix it. as said already it may have gone out of place.

Will you stop fannying about and just give the ould bitch a kick in the arse. Sure give it a good kick, and see if it`ll start then.
It shud be fine after that! If not, just keep repeat above procedure until it is.

Important question still needs answering if you want a solution.....
I remember your post before about the games issue and we narrowed it down to your refresh rate settings needing an override if I remember correctly.
It is important to know if you can get any visuals in safe mode at all. If so then besides the video driver set the correct monitor type and lower the refresh rate.

There is a pin on the cable dedicated to getting PnP info. from the monitor and this also could be the culprit if it's buggered when Win2k is trying to query your monitor through it.

Have you opened your pc and reseated it?

look at monitor cable make sure no pins are bent ,if so straighten em out..very very gently.use tweezers or sumthin.take out card reseat it gently but firmly.try and go into bios.or use onbord vga display from motherboard.press f8 gointo safe mode 800by 600 resolution, low refresh rate 50mhz.
