Converting a LCD Monitor to work as a TV

    Hi All,

I have a spare 19" LCD monitor at home and I thought I would use it as an lcd TV in a spare bedroom.

Can anyone suggest the best (and smallest/discreet) converter that I could get? I was hoping to fit the monitor into or onto the wall (its plaster board) and was hoping for something discreet was hoping of not having a big box hanging with it?

    Any help from anyone?

    Please?

...otherwise my wife wants me to get rid!

Ah, you've stumbled into the twilight zone of consumer products that don't exist.

You'd need a PC with a TV tuner card - or something similar - PVR or whatever.

Use a VGA extension cable to have the PC a few meters away.

Since the 19" monitor has a higher resolution than a TV you might be able to swap for a pure LCD TV with someone.

Oh yeah the real kicker is that it would only cost about €40 more have stuck a tuner in it when they made it.

i seen a thing in the maplins catalogue that is some sort of tuner that has a vga output to a monitor and does'nt need the pc to be on, so this may be the thing your looking for. Its an external while box ni bigger than a dvd case by the looks of it.

Ooops sorry, its a spare 17" LCD and not 19" and its a Dell

Thanks for your input there, but I was hoping that something might be out there that didn't have too many wires hanging around and was just a converter of some kind. Seems like a waste of a really good unused monitor - thanks for the link to the article, but as it says, there is a good few wires hanging around and a large (ish) box that comes with it and since I want to hang this on a wall - it doesn't seem like the option for me.Do think that it shouldnt be too difficult to insert another board into the monitor, but thats another matter.

Feck it anyway, thanks for the feedback!!

this yoke might do the trick if you couple it with a vcr or summat:

Wouldn't one of those PS2 Xbox vga convertor boxes do the trick? I have one of those and it has RCA input for dvd players etc. I haven't tried that combination though :)

    Edit,
Sorry I didn't see the link above, yep one of those but the price doesn't look good.

All you need is something like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3761&item=5209050475&rd=1
Just search on ebay for "external tv tuner" and you'll find loads of them.
My mate uses one in his flat in London with an old 19in crt he had lying around adn the picture is great on it. Remote & everything.
