Me and the gf are going away for a few days next week and i guess i didn't really time things well because she should be having her period then, so she'll probably end up skipping this one by continuing to take the pill(microlite). She's just curious if this will have any side affects as she's never done it before. What should she expect?

It shouldn't be a problem running one month into the next. She'll definitely have to take the week off next month though.

Nothing will happen. Just go straight into the next month.

Nothing may happen. She may get some spotting. She may feel very bloated. She may feel fine. It's a bit like Mystic Meg's lottery predictions "the winner may be a man! ...or it could be a woman!"

Had exact same scenario last week for a romantic weekend away in galway and all went well. Admittedly she is currently in hospital getting appendix out but she tells me its totally unrelated.

Should have seen the look on the doctors faces tho when she was complaining of pains and they'd ask when last period was and she'd say 5weeks..and her mothers for that matter!

Just continue to take the next packet straight after the others. She might getting spotting during the second pack and then she might not. I'm also on microlite and I've done this a few times, with no problems.

Eh... is this actually a good thing to do? I can't imagine so.

It's Ok to do it once every so often, but they do recommend that you run no more than 2 packets back to back

ah this is only a one off, thanks for the replies, i'm sure she'll be relieved!

She didn't do it properly then.

yeah i don't see how you can get pregnant by doing this. It doesn't effect the effectiveness of the pill at all.

The pill isn't 100% even when used correctly. Running packets back to back is no more of a risk than normal, or so I believe.

yes she did, she ia a nurse so i think that makes her even more aware. as has been said running two packets together is more of a risk and the pill is not 100% anyway. it is a risk you take and taking two is a higher risk.

No, she didn't. Why don't you go back and ask her to correct you.

There is absolutely no proven added risk from running packets back to back. Don't post bull**** advice.

yeah sorry but i think your sister needs to change profession.

Thats bull, hope I never have to go to your sister for anything!!

Packets state that it is ok to run two packets together. Doctors tell you its fine and suggest it if you want to miss a period.

Ive done it, everyones done it, its fine. She just might get some spotting etc.

Number one: mate not to worry if she runs the two packs together she will be grand. No preggers for her, she may as stated above get some slight bleeding but it would only be spotting.

tabatha, that would be a rare rare chance for that to happen and she would have had to miss the pill one day or not take it on time. Further more the fact that she got pregnant on the pill is possbily completely unrelated to the fact that she ran two packs together. I think it is fair to say that what happened to your sister is a rare case that would not pertain to most people.

Pregnancy is always a possiblity with any contraception bar having the organs removed. But it is pretty unlikely. Having said that the hubbie and I have been very lucky over the last 5 years we have had no mistakes and I can be terrible at taking the pill on time.

    you'll be fine mate!

    And eh, use condoms anyway.

What I do in these situations is either finish the "3 weeks" a few days earlier, or else add an extra few days - up to a week - to the 3 weeks. So that would be say 4 weeks taking the pill as opposed to the 6 weeks that taking a 2 month course back to back would amount to.
My reasoning for this is that if I wasn't on the pill, my periods are not like clockwork anyway - ie not every 28 days - it would vary between 24 and 32 days or thereabouts.
However, I don't see a problem with someone taking the pill for 6 weeks, especially if it's only a once-off and the woman is under 35 and in good health.
