DCU will be creating a new American Football team next year, the DCU Saints.

It's open to non-DCU students, so anyone from Trinity is free to join.

For more info check out, www.dcusaints.com

Or reply here if you have any questions.

And they always have the biggest payers on defense salivating over the thought of hurting them.

    It's a good balance.

Is it tag football or full contact?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭BizzyC

    We'll have both.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

Knowing some of the players on the Dublin Dragons (based in lucan btw) I'd say it'd be seriously lame (and I seriously doubt) if they just did tag football. I think their former coach is training the DCU club.

American football is an amazingly fun game to play, my friends and I had to stop though after one fella got concussed a couple times and I dislocated my shoulder. We didn't wear any of those wussy pads or anything you see :D

Yeah, we'll be coached by former dragons coach, and current national team coach, Phil DeMonte.

Tell me more about the cheerleaders......

i'd imagine you need to be big to play. get agent smith or boston down there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭BizzyC

    No.

Football is one of those sports though where size can dictate where you play.
If you're not too big you'd be restricted to playing DB, or WR or maybe RB.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

then you have to be fast?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭BizzyC

It defenitely helps, but it's not everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

    So, anyway, back to football.

anyone who's 20st, sould be a lineman, if your fast though, you could make linebacker, or fullback.

if you're 6', and fast, get in there. We'll make a receiver or a DB out of you.

Just wondering, if this is going to be a DCU team, and you're inviting all the other colleges, who exactly will you be playing against?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

i sense rm doesnt play sports.

I played Running back for the Dublin Blue Dragons for part of the '04 season. Thats sort of like a flanker in rugby. while rugby is a MUCH better sport, American football has its merits. Whlie they are all standing around between plays, they are resting and developing a stragety. when they start again, they have more energy for complex maneouvers.

    Dublin Blue dragons????
Dont really see the comparison between the positions either, if anything i'd say RB is more like a second center position.

To answer RM's question, there is a league.

At the moment there is 2 other dublin teams; the Rebels, and the Dragons,
There are 2 teams from the belfast area; the knights, and the cowboys,
and there are 2 from munster; the cork admirals and the UL vikings.

There is also another north dublin team, and a team in galway under developement.
