Hey im having a problem, I have attatched my monitor to my computer and on the monitor it says no pc signal,i have a video card which is in my AGP slot,it has to go there because it wont fit into my pci slots. Ok i dont know if its a video card or graphics card because i was always under the impression that only graphics cards go into the AGP slot. Anyway as you can tell im kinda confused so can anybody help me?

drop a pic of the interface on the card and of the front of the card and I think we can tell you what it is

If it fits in an AGP slot and has a VGA or DVI connection for the monitor then we can be sure that it's meant to send a signal to the monitor.

    1. Video card and graphics card mean the same thing on home PCs (unless you're talking about TV cards).
    2. Do you have a name for the card? Is it recently purchased and added or was it working until it suddenly broke down?
    3. Is it a newly built PC, make and model. New monitor? Pins on cable connector are not bent out of shape? Does the PC sound like it's trying to boot up (hard drive whirring for a minute, windows startup sound heard)

You'll have to provide more info. Based on what you've provided it could be Damaged monitor, video cable, connector, new graphics card in old motherboard or vice versa (New cards use lower voltages) etc etc

knock off pc,,take out video card, put it back in slowly, make sure it goes in all the way into slot, reboot pc.agp slot is brown, pci slots are white.is there an onboard video connector on motherbord, look for connector inch wide .with 15holes in it.u may need to go into bios ,to enable agp video mode,in advanced settings.

some cards need power from the psu, if there is a molex slot on the card, make sure you have a cable from the psu connected to it

Sounds like the card is an agp 8x but the motherboard slot
is only agp 2x or 1x.

Other than that you should get some sort of signal.

an agp 8x card would run at 2x in an agp 2x mobo

an agp 8x card would run at 2x in an agp 2x mobo

Agp 8x Card's are only compatible with AGP 8x/4x... Generaly speaking they dont run at 2X.

Waht kind of system is this card running in and wht card is it ?

    Cheers,
    Hj.

Sorry ive tried to upload a pic but the file is too large.
It's an old video card, its not a problem with the monitor or connection as ive 3 monitors and they all work on my other pc!

Yes it has a connection for the monitor, infact thats the only connection there is possible, The card fits into the agp slot fine, doesnt have a molex connection, i think its a problem with the card, i dont know make or model because its my brothers, was just left after upgrade. I'm just building a low spec pc at the moment so no there hasnt even been a stage that the card, as far as i know has been working and then broke down.

The pc is working, it boots up, hard drive is spinning, everything is good to go just no pc signal.

The one thing that i can spot is that on the interface of the video card there are "2" holes where the screws go in from the cable of the monitor....there is only one of these holes, but ive made sure that its properly connected despite this minor problem. if it wasnt connected at all then the monitor wouldnt say no pc signal but it would have a box on the screen with horizontal lines and different colors like red, then blue etc so i can confirm that it is connected properly.

The only thing i can think of is that its a faulty video card!

What do you guys think now?

    Thanks

see if theres on board video on the motherboard, look for 15 hole connector ,a few inchs from keybord connector, plug monitor into that and reboot, u may need to enable agp video ,in bios, press del hold it down, reboot pc,go to advanced settings in ,bios, click enable AGP VIDEO MODE,u can put ad on boards.ie wanted pc hardware.64meg agp video card, get geoforce 3 or 4 at least if u want to play games, what cpu, processor is in this pc?

    Pictures aren't necessary.

The name, make and model of your card and computer/computer motherboard would be useful.

The required info should be printed on the card and additional info on the chips themselves (nvidia nv15, ati128, sis, matrox whatever)

    Same goes for the motherboard.

There are 3 AGP standards the latest being 2 yrs old, the oldest 5 yrs. And an AGP 1 card should be keyed not to fit an agp 3 motherboard, but the cheap manufacturers sometimes mess things up.
To rule out this, we'd google the model of each to see what modes each suipports.
    http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_Connector_AGP.html

Though if the video card is failing, usually you would expect a beep code from the computer at startup.

    What else?
All motherboard power connectors are connnected to the PSU? Sometimes there's two.
Possibility that the old setup was overclocked? Reset bios by unplugging and removing battery for a minute. Still should have bios screen though.
Possibility AGP slot has to be dusted/cleaned for good connection.

    After that out of ideas.
