Canon ip5000 problems...Any help please?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a Canon IP5000 and although its a great machine I am having a few problems with print quality.
Printing on Canon paper with Canon ink I am getting vertical sections as you look at the final printed image (therefore horizontal at printing stage) of what I would describe as about 1/2 cm thick faded printing (with some white lines) at regular intervals of about 1 1/2 inches. Its as if when the print head is going across it gets lazy at certain points.
These are not as noticable on colourful busy images but they are noticable on any image with solid colours.
Any help would be great :)
    Thanks,
    Marie

would sound like the Print head is either buggered or dirty, try the maintanance utils in the Printer Driver software, if that doesn't help, then takethe printer head back to the shop you brought the printer from with the receipt and get them to change it

    Thanks Gilgamesh...
I will give that a go, bought the darn thing from Amazon so not so easy to return it and this is the second one I have had?!?! Print head was buggered in the last one I got...covered in cyan ink when I opened it.
Maybe its an unlucky time of year for me :(

bought myself the IPX4000 and must say I never had a better printer in my life, hope it works out this time with the replacement,

might be faster though to go straight through the Canon Hotline and get them sort it out for you
    just a thought

You don't happen to know the canon hotline number do you?
I have been in touch with Canon Support and they seem to think it is indeed a print head problem. The first printers print head I received had cyan ink on it and inside its packaging....the second printer print head had a little cyan ink on it and I have been told that it should have NO ink at all. However, they don't seem to make any connection between there production line and these 2 faulty print heads!!! To me it seems obvious but there you go :)
Hopefully I will be able to sort this locally as I really dont want to send yet another printer back to the UK and then wait for another one to be sent back to me.
I know its a really good printer (if it works) but I just want one that works or well a working print head!

Just an update from me. Amazon have informed me that it is indeed a wider problem than just the two printers I have received and as they need to make further enquiries with Canon they cannot send another replacement as it would more than likely have the same problem as its from the same batch of stock so they have refunded me :) Both Amazon and Canon have been very friendly about the whole situation and although it is a pain that I have to return another printer and will now be printerless for the time being at least I know that I havent just been REALLY unlucky :)
So for anyone thinking of buying a ip5000 it might be worth waiting just a little while.
Thanks for your help Gilgamesh :)
