I'm entering this photo into a competition, Father and Son title, what do you think

As a picture, it's very good a strong image. As an entry into a 'Father and Son' competition, I can't see it being a contender. Nothing about it reveals anything of a father/son relationship or bond or likeness to me. It could just as easily be a pair of work colleagues. It doesn't reveal anything of the subjects, in fact it could be argued that the people are not even the main subjects of the picture. But good luck with it, it's a really nice shot in itself.

Thanks O'Brien for your critique, but personally I think the body language of the child works as a father and son pic...can't see this a just being two work colleagues ( what would you be doing in fuerteventura airport at 6am in the morning with a midget as a work colleague) :D ...personally I don't think this photo would have much to offer without the silouthes of father and son, ok you would have a nice sunrise, but I have loads of them, so something different is always welcome in my book...sure I'll let you know how I get on

On the one hand you say it's a strong image then on the other you say that it doesn't reveal anything about the people in the photo, bit of a contradiction i feel.
Without the father and son, it's just another sunrise/sunset.
The father is clearly bigger than the son and his stance is more assured/authorative.

I think it's quite a good photo because it does look like a father and son.
Even if i hadn't been told the title for the photo i would still think "oh, that's a nice silouhette of a father and son".
Given the title, it reinforces the idea that it's a father and son.

    It is a good picture.
It seems to convey a father and son together, even though its silhoutted, you can tell one is much older.

When I said it is a strong image I meant it was well composed and technically well executed - The silhouette works well, the sunrise is nicely captured, the roof adds interest. But because they are silhouettes, I didn't feel I got any insight into the special nature of their relationship, which is what I'd be looking for if I was judging a competition on this particular theme. Looking at it again, I take the point that the body language/stances do convey something protective. As I said, I like the shot.

I'm trying to make up my mind whether it would have been better to have the silhouettes on the other side of the pic and leave the sunrise uncovered. But then that might either make it too cluttered (nice negative space on right as it stands) or could evoke an instant "nice sunrise" response instead of "oh, cool moody silhouette there".
