If you want them very badly, consider buying a dual processor motherboard and two single core processors. It should be effectively the same.

    should be shipping june 21st.

There's alot of extra cost in going a dual motherboard Khannie, new ram(registered), more expensive motherboard, more expensive chips (opteron 248 single core is as expensive as a dual core of the same mhz/cache a64x2). You could eventually go dual-dual core tho =)

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/AMD_64_X2.html are taking pre-orders on the x2's.

Why not just go ahead and build a pc.....
I think (could be way wrong) the 64X2 cpu's will work on the same mobo as regular 64bit cpu's.
Get a cheap 939 3000+ winchester and then when you feel its starting to become slow 64X2 cpu's will have droped in price and would make for a nice upgrade.

EDIT: if your holding of with your build cause you want the latest components you'll never get this pc builth. See there's a new nvidia gfx chip set due soon with 512mb ram?? Wonder what ati is going to do in response to them......

Dual-processors have been out for some decades. The M68K was an early consumer example. You're thinking of dual-core processors.

And yep, most 939 and 940 boards will take the respective dual-core chips

Dual-core chips are of little use to most consumers right now, tho. What do you want it for?

    and in 18 months it'll be €200.

    tick tock, tick tock.

if you have the budget then you may as well build what you can now, and then upgrade it when new bits come out.

if you don't have the budget then you need to buy what you can now, and then spend the next 12 months drooling over magazines until that rich uncle you never knew you had carks it and you can build your ultimate machine. ;)

the reason i want to know is because of the price drop of the single processors

At least wait till Intel kills P-4; shouldn't be long now. Then things will get interesting.
