This is a kind of straw poll to find out what style of tattoos people are getting in Ireland.

Lets know what tattoos you have...

I am in the process of getting a celtic sleeve done, still a few more pieces to go on and then the shading, about another 5 sessions I reckon, depending on cash.
I also have a triskell on my right arm and a largish celtic piece.

I decided to post them as links as these have already been on this board (except one on the inside left forearm) and people dont like the board getting repetitive.
A good few celtics really and 2 years ago I had none :o

my first and only tattoo! I'm gonna get another one in the summer....
I don't really like putting pictures of this up, so i might delete it after a while!

oh and one close inspection it mightn't look straight, but it is, it's just cos i took the pic myself and its on my bak, so it was difficult!

tattoo's are a personal thing; you can't really use peoples advice (unless its the artist and he's telling you your design is sh!Te!!) some people like my tats, others hate them..if you like something, think about it and when your positive, get it done

i have two tribal pieces, one on my upper right arm and one on left forearm. They're pretty cool, i'd like more but i can't be arsed at the minute.

I prefer tribal, black with subtle colours. Nothing too loud (colour wise)

I like that. It beats any of the random tribal ****e you see evry skanger under the sun with on their lower back. Some nice subtle colouring nad stuff in there as well. Did you design it yourself?

have seen all the tattoos posted have to admit they all look great but the celtic & tribal ever person has them. i like the other types of tattoos because they seem to have that bit of uniqueness.

The way I look at it is I am Irish so why go around getting the likes of foreign type tattoos on my body!!?? (japanese, chinese writing, Maori etc) I like most tattoos but personally I went for this type for the reason above.

What other types do you like and are more unique? I can't think of many that are totally unique even say Giger types are more common worldwide.....

Horses for courses Niptuck, nice tat you got there too.
I notice we didn't get to see any of JohnnyC's tattoos.
In all fairness though with all the time that I have been in the studios so far Celtic is not predominant, in fact I see a fair mix of styles. Tribal is on the other hand all over the place.
Kanji would make more sense, then maybe we could all have "Violent Diorrheaea" on our bodies.

I agree with you, but doesn't it come down to people's individual tastes? Whatever floats your boat.

And you are entitled to it, like I said horses for courses.

My tattoos are not unique at all, they are pulled from the book of kells so far.

Gav in Zulu, tell him Eoin with the Celtic Sleeve he is working on sent you ;)
He specialises in Tribally type stuff specifically that Maori style as in the previous tribal, as you can see he is also good at Celtic.

Thats a fair point but it can lead to a cultural superiority or form of exclusivness. What's stopping non Irish people from getting celtic tattoos? I have seen people who obviously weren't Irish with celtic bands and it didn't make we want to question their right to have it. The celtic band has a universal appeal and meaning.

Ok with Maori tattoos it is different. Ta moko tattoos have a meaning that are unique to a particular family line or tribe and should only be worn by people who understand this connection because to do so can offend maoris.

What about the tribal-celtic style of tattoos? Mixing up say the Pacific Islander style of tattoos or tribal style with celtic symbolism. Tattoos are universal and don't belong exclusively to any one race.

I never said they belong to anybody or any race. I got the tattoo for the reason I stated above. Its my reason and my right to get what I feel means more to me. Nothing more nothing less...........

I have a crappy skull on my arm I'm gonna get covered up soon with something I really like

I'm looking to get a Kokopelli done on my left arm around my shoulder but I got quoted 140e when I went to get it done on Monday (it's only gonna be around 4 inches high if even and only flat black) so I'll be going in next week to get it done...

Here's the pic I'm gonna get done

Thanks man, finally got it done today up in Zulu by Justin... seems like a sound bloke...

I only got the outline done cos it woulda been a bit stressful on my wallet to get the whole thing done at once but I'll go back next week after payday and get it filled in...

I'm gonna keep the wrap on until tomorrow morning so I can't take a very good picture of it at the moment so I'll post up a pic tomorrow :)

How long did it take to get something like that done? I plan to get a JTHM tatt this summer, or the FFVII comet on my left shoulder blade.

That didn't take too long to get done... less than an hour I think... a JTHM tattoo would be cool... or maybe a big Squee on your back ;)

I was gonna design it myself, but I saw one done of, well, yknow the big pic at the back of one of the issues of Johnny digging ("What a week, what a great ****ing week")? Yeah, that. Or one of his knives on my forearm. Can't wait to get it.
