Just started playing VIII again, Tis' a classic game but for the love of god some of the characters are annoying.

If I see Selphie say "I like trains" one more time.

I hate Selphie the most of all the characters even more so than the camp iterations of the FFX characters in FFX-2.

Actually I found all the characters annoying in FFVIII except Quistis but after about 1 hour into the game she gets completely forgotten about in the story.

Squall: Ignorant twat that needs a good slap.
Rinoa: 'Is she really going out with him'. Squall is a twat. You could do a lot better. Well you are as dense as two short planks so maybe you deserve one another.
Zell: Reminds me of a somebody that every school class has. You know the one that's really hyperactive and thinks he is great but everybody else knows he is a prick.
Irvine: There was already one ignorant twat so this one got left aside just like Quistis
Seifer: More spoiled child than bad guy.

Half the time it felt like you were escorting a bunch of school kids instead of a hard ass mercenary unit.

I did enjoy FFVIII but the story was rubbish. It substituted spectacle for storyline and tried to westernise FF by dumbing down the story. Hateful characters and dreadful bad guys didn't help especially the final witch that just appeared out of nowhere with no mention of her in the story up to that point.

However it could have been a result of an awful translation (how can you take bad guys seriously when they spout ****e like 'S'up Squall. Fusjins gonna treat ya, ya know'.)

    Anyway thats my two cents.

Strabge , I thought that the characters in VIII where the most realistic and you could relate to them most.

One thing though , I think. They way you have siad those things about the characters is because that is exactly what the game wants you to think and that you have gone right along with their plans. I duno maybe I am, reading into it too much but are the "traits" you have listed not appear to be integral to the storyline?

    /puts on helmet and cup
Actually , I welcome a remake of VIII more than VII.

The game was trying to make me think, 'oh aren't they so cool'. Instead I ended up hating them. There was also the relationships between the characters which was overblown and unrealistic. There was no emotional attachment that I would have to characters in any decent RPG. I couldn't care less if they got together or not. In fact that part was probably the most boring. I also couldn't relate to the chartacters since they were so stereotypical 'valley girl' and 'jock' types that they were charactures and very unrealistic.

There was always something that put me off that game and i think retrogamner has summed it up. Never really kept my attention for longer than 2 or 3 days. That being said im oddly tempted to start playing it again, i thikn i stopped because they were going into space or something stupid.

No they aren't. You can find their like on any episode of the OC.

That was actually my favourite part of the game. It gets very 2001. However they then ruin it with a load of lunar cry BS about monsters coming from the moon to earth. Barf :p

I give it a yay, I know I moan about it but parts of it were enjoyable enough.

Certainly alot better than most of the games i've played
