    Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of applying for a job as a charity fundraiser, i.e. stopping people on the street to ask them to sign up to give x amount of money per month. I'm just wondering if you could tell me about your experience of this kind of work?

    Thanks

    Nala

If you meet me on the street prepare deal with with a polite FCUK OFF....

Without any exception... I HATE direct debit charity collectors more than anything on this planet... ANNOYING ANNOYING ANNOYING...

If you want to make money then this could be the job for you, but if you want to make money for a charity out of the goodness of your heart, collect money and donate directly. These direct debit 'scams' are a joke. Only a small proportion actually goes to the charity...

Use the search funtion. There was a thread on this on after hours a few months ago.

In fairness while they are annoying, and they are, the direct debits are not a scam. I have one set up with World Vision and the assure me that %90 of my money goes directly to the village that I donate to. %10 on admin and advertising is perfectly understandable.

From my understanding these jobs are just that, jobs. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong now but they get decent wages and work on commision, and I dont hink people go in to it for charity reasons but, like the rest of us, just to get a job.
My advice would be to organise a charity event,a table quiz night or a 70s night of something. Set up a direct debit yourself or something.

To be honest, the main reason I'd be applying is because I really need the money, but the charity aspect is there aswell. I think I'll give it a shot because like I say, I really need the money. I hope people on the street won't be too nasty to me, I know how annoying charity fundraisers are.

Have done it. I enjoyed it, went home from work with a "warm, fuzzy feeling" inside.

But it really does show you the nasty selfish side of humanity.
