no... it's probably just that I'm an idiot when it comes to phones and firmware.

I thought it was V800 to Z800, I dunno what the difference is between the Z800 and Z800i.

Ah basically its the same thing. Z800/Z800i. Even if you look on Sony Ericsson site, there is only one listed and its listed as the Z800i, so technically speaking, you are more up on them than we are! :D

    Two questions

How do you identify the firmware version?

What does debranding the phone give you in terms of features or functionality besides removing the silly vodafone logos etc :)

    Use the following key sequence
    >*<<*<* and it will bring up a list on the screen
Go into Service info and then Software Info

Other than removing the vodafone stuff, you get this

Unlocked and Uncapped MMS Settings, WAP Settings and Browser Settings
Browse Menus 20-30% Faster Speed after Conversion
Select between GSM and GSM/3G Networks
    Battery Life is extended
Play any MP3 files without any restriction
Play any MP4 files without any restriction
6.5Mbytes more as FREE SPACE in the main memory handset
Camera Photo Driver is Upgraded and Now ZOOM is 4X

    OK

    R1J002

I take it once you debrand the phone you have to go through the process of setting up WAP, 3g, email etc?

Yes, but that only takes a few minutes on the Sony Ericsson site

is it an easy process can u f up your phone by doing so?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,553 ✭✭✭wolfman

Yes it is an easy process.
I wouldn't turn around and say you CAN'T f up your phone, because where one person can follow instructions, another can't, but basically, even if it did kill the phone, the same server process can be used to repair dead phones also.
    Hope that answers your question.
