Was wondering if any irish insurers will insure you for track days for a certain amount for just a day. Will be going on a few track days and would be such an ease of mind to be insured. Anyone know of any off hand before i have to start ringing everyone :D

This is Ireland, you crash- you pull it out by the side of the road, deny you were racing and everything track related then screw the insurance co.

Going by the 'purists' in 'puntos' (I know an oxymoron if every there was one), some bullbars and a complete pile of disposable crap would be advisable.

It's not as bad as it seems, these guys spend more time off-track than on ;)

@ bp_me: In Ireland insurance cannot be provided by the circuit (or anyone else) unless they are an approved agent under IFSRA

As for getting track day insurance. I don't think any companies in Ireland offer track insurance and your normal road policy usually states that you are not covered in competition or track events. However, there is a UK company that offer track insurance...
See www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk but be prepared to pay a large sum of money!

On this note there is an open track day in Mondello next Monday

Can you drive any old jammer out there?

Can't be good for your car!

That is why I wouldn't participate in one of those track days - too many €300 cars let out.

A track day is very hard on a car [brakes, brake fluid, tyres, etc] but if the car is well maintained there shouldn't be much of an issue.
I have put my current and last car out in Mondello on privately organised track days and I have never had any problems. I always kept the car on the black stuff which helps a little! It is great fun too!

Ok ill give that company a call. Its such a pity about no irish companies offering insurance for it, but not a big surprise really  I doubt ill make it to the open days, as ive heard they can be a bit mad. Im only a begineer and the last thing i want is 50 cars on the same track ;) I'll be heading to a private day tommorow. Ill let you guys know if i find any insurers, thanks for your help!

Kirkistown in Norn Iron also do track days.
As for bringing your own car - it helps as nobody else will lend you one!

Most people usually go to the UK with a car trailer pick up a cheap banger, if you look on autotrader UK you will find 100s of cars like Civic type Rs from the 80s and the odd xr3i escort for next to nothing, and basically you can drive it round the track like a muppet and if it gets written off no bother off to the scrap dealers, otherwise just keep it for another day or sell it in the paper for a 10th of its actual value. All in all you get your track day (or a number of them) no damage to your car and for little more than the price of a fast banger!
