This completely slipped my mind but i'm travelling to the US for 2 weeks and i'm wondering if i need a visa or how is it handled?

I know there's an emigration form or some sort thats given to you on the flight, is this all thats needed? Also my passport is one of the old ones without the eye scan on it but it is in perfect nick, shouldnt be a problem being machine read.

Ireland belongs to the visa waiver program, which means you can enter the US for a period of max 90 days without the need for a visa. Your passport must be machine-readable, sounds like it is from what you said.

You will be free to enter with the Visa Waiver programme they run with 27 countries. However, you won't be able to get a Fingerprint Waiver or Photograph Waiver.

also make sure that your passport is with 6 months before expiry as they wont accept anything less.

Regarding, the length of time your passport must be valid for, here is a quote from the US embassy's website. It appears that it doesnt matter how long your passport is valid for, as long as it's valid for the duration of your stay in the US.

The United States has an agreement with many countries (including Ireland) automatically extending the validity of a passport for six months past the passport's expiration date. Consequently, an Irish/EU passport need remain valid only for the duration of the holder's stay in the United States. However, if you are traveling visa-free on the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and your passport is valid for less than 90 days, you will generally be admitted only until the date the passport expires.
