    Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone knew the story with visas for South East Asia?

We're hitting Thailand in August and tripping through Vietnam Laos and Cambodia over the following month and a half.

Anyone know when and where we apply for them? Or how much they cost? Or if you can get them (cheaper) at the border or in Bangkok?

    Muchas gracias!

    Hey,

You can apply for them through the Thai embassy in London and the cost is 25 euro I think. I don't think you should bother with the Thai one because you will be leaving the country and going back in before a 30 day period and when you re-enter the country that entitles you to another 30 day tourist visa.
The Cambodian and Vietnam visas can be sorted out over there via a number of tour operators on Koh San road and I think they just take your passport for a day so make sure to plan some extra time in Bangkok.

Thats why I said sort it with an operator around the Koh San road area. Aswell as the additional charges on the border they also have alot of pick pockets that should be avoided.

I second what Loco said. Get your visas when you're in Bangkok. If you want them the next day you'll have to pay more. But imo Bangkok is not a place to linger in.

Vietnamese embassy is just off the Sukhumvit skytrain line. We paid a lot less there than some folks we met. But we still had to pay US$2 'health inspection' fee at the border.

Lao embassy is in the middle of nowhere, best reached by cab. They gave me my visa within ten minutes though. Cost next to nothing.

I was overcharged by US$7 for my Cambodian visa at the border.
And then another hundred baht 'stamping charge' by immigration.
So I should have gone to the embassy in Bangkok!
