Tiger and SCSI

I'm doing a job for a client here, upgrading a Power Mac G4 to Tiger. He has a USB printer that only works on OS X so I needed to get the system off 9.2. But now I have another issue.

There's a second printer connected to a Belkin USB-SCSI 25-pin adapter. But there's no OS X drivers for the SCSI adapter. Right now the printer isn't working even in the old OS 9.2 install. It says it can't find the printer and to check the connections, despite everything being connected correctly. It did work before I installed OS X.

I have a Photoshop plugin for the printer which works in 10.4 but just can't get the USB SCSI adapter to work. Are there any 25-pin SCSI adapters (that support OS X) that I could bung into the Mac to get it working?

I'm feeling really stuck here, shouldn't have jumped into an OS X install, gulp. Excuse my stupidity, I'm usually a PC guru.

unfortunatly there are issues with OS X and SCSI. I believe you will have to look at an Atto SCSI card, they are not cheap and there isn't a standard 25pin as far as I know.

What spec is the G4? if it is the mirror doors or later you will have to look at the ATTO. I believe Adaptec's website claim OS X compatibility but I hear that this isn't 100% true

Its an 800MHz G4 (Quicksilver) with 768MB RAM. Doesn't matter though, I got it working. :D

There was another G4 in the office running OS 9.2 connected to a SCSI negative scanner. It had an internal Adaptec AVA-2906 PCI SCSI card, which has OS X drivers available on the website! So I decided to swap the host adapters and put the USB one on the other G4.

So I installed the PCI SCSI card in the OS X machine, installed Photoshop CS2 and all is hunky dory! The dealer who sold them the printer told me that he doesn't know anyone in Ireland using one on OS X, and I just did it! :)

Have a quick check that the printer has no other interfaces. Some SCSI printers had serial and/or parallel connections; these might be simpler, tho a bit slower.
