Can anyone recommend a few places to go in Copenhagen? Particularly late bars etc.

    Hey, Von. *The* Von?

If it still exists, totally go to Christiania. Just a bus ride away from Central Station. There's a venue inside, but on the very edge of Christiania called Loppen. Not exactly a club, although maybe it is, but it's a place where there's really good gigs on.

Other than that, I can't really help you out on nightlife, I was only there for 10 hours!

Lol, I wasn't there much longer. Skip the little mermaid - we dragged ourselves and our cans (very classy) all the way out to it and were severely uninpressed, most over-rated landmark ever.

Make sure you have ID with you - they're very anal but fair, they were asking everyone at every door pretty much when we were there.

Think the club we went to was Britannia or something like that (wasn't full of Brits and expats, don't worry). It was quite a good club, several floors with some decent music but having said that they did play the new madonna song about 4 or 5 times that I heard. It was open til about 6am and was fairly central to copenhagen - there should be plenty of other clubs about too, try google :)

Very nice city, I definitely would have liked to spend more time there...

I'm actually going to Malmo (Swedish woman involved) but will probably be in Copenhagen for a few days as well. You just reminded me that I know someone from there (reasonably well known artist who was raised in christiana I believe) who I can ask for advice on stuff. I was in Sweden a few weeks ago and was told that Christiana is shut but I haven't checked that up.

    Hey Von,

Good choice on going to Copenhagen.

Christiania is still there and definately worth a visit, i your easily intimidated then i advise you to go during the day. No as safe feeling at night.

Then there is a church just before you go into christiania with a huge spire. Go there. You can get onto the outside of the spire it really scarey but you'll be glad you did it. You've gotta take a trip on one of the canal boats, great way to see the city and the mermaid.

The infamous mermaid. It worth going just to say you've gone. And on your way out to it you'll pass through the palace, they have achanging of the gaurd like england. As far as going out, there is a really cool club called VEGA. well worth going to for a night out. They stay open really late too. There is the dubliner on the main shopping street 'Strode' at the main intersection, actually you can see the spire from that intersection too and that will navigate you to christiania. There isn't really a danish pub as such but you'll see them, alot like german pubs.

That should keep you busy for a few days and you'll always find more stuff to do there. The observatory is a good way to see the city from above. Thats just up the main intersection of 'Strode'. As in strode, left and right. And this street going at right angles to it.

Have fun, i love the city.

    Hey Von

Just seen your post ...hope I'm not too late to reply ...lol

I went to Copenhagen last year and included a day trip to Malmo ...the return ferry from Malmo leaves you to a place called NY Haven, I didnt actually stop there myself but the place was really buzzing, there was a great atmosphere so I'd recommend giving that a try! I personally fell in love with the Tivoli gardens ...theres something magical about the place at night time! :)

A bit off topic but is there not some new 'super' bridge between malmo and copenhagen now, I vaguely remember watching some program on the discovery channel about this being built?

yeah, its called the oresund bridge. it opened in july 2000. its a normal bridge from the malmö side, then just before it gets to denmark, it "lands" on a man made (?) island and goes underground and then reaches the (copenhagen) airport before going onto copenhagen. the bridge has one deck from trains and another deck for autotraffick. it is pretty amazing.

Cool cheers for that, me and a few friends are going on a campervan trip during the summer and we thought we would have to get the boat from copenhagen to malmo. I say the toll is crazy money though

Never made it to Copenhagen after all, too much going on in Malmo. Hope to go later in the year when I've more time.
