I took the day off work to get sky installed, got a call from the engineer at 8.40 am.

I was asked if I had the sky card yet, and of course I don’t.

Im now told that this takes 8-10 days, yet when I ordered on Friday 27th may they scheduled an install for wednesday 1st june.

I’m told by the engineer this is very common.

Has anyone else lost a day’s work due to this?

I've never seen the install date so close to the actual ordering of Sky.

Very odd, they normally give you a week apart at least, in so far as letting the card posted out.

At the moment installations around ireland are brutal, guys are lucky if they have 2 days work a week right now.

I should point out it wasnt the installers fault, it was at the booking stage with sky.

Yeah, Sky installs at the moment are very quiet with me, though I don't depend on Sky installs so not too bad. Maybe it has come to near saturation point? The only thing that would give Sky a major boost now, would be what everyone wants, ITV and C4... can't see that happening any time soon though.

It will only happen when you least expect it.

I had to wait 3 months for my original Sky install - I ordered it in early December 2003 and was given a date in early March 04. I ordered Sky+ with multiroom in late April, and today was the earliest day they could do the install, so I’m a bit annoyed to learn other people are being given 1 week installs - or is Co. Meath a notorious "black spot"? My humour is not helped by the fact that they instantly debited my credit card at the now old (i.e. higher) Euro 199 price. But, at least my new Sky card did arrive several weeks ago, and it all seems to be working fine.

If it has become saturated, and their research says thats the reason, maybe they will get their arse in gear about it. May even be tempted myself... :)

i postponned one installation as i still hadnt got my cards (sky+ multiroom)
rang sky and the drone said i was due to receive cards AFTER installation

installer arrives on correct date and asks did i get my cards
i didnt so i rang sky. they now say they were posted 2 months ago but appears to have been lost in the post (its a new house so it is possible). Why didnt they say that when i rang before instead of making up some lies about due to receive them after installation

anyway, spent about 40 mins on phone trying to make sky drone understand that the installer wont complete install unless cards are there. even after talking to the installer, the sky drone still tried to tell me instruct the installer to leave boxes hooked up and come back when cards arrive. (In fairness to the installer, he did all the cabling and it just requires the boxes to be hooked up. I would recommend this installer to anyone)

so after making sky drone understand the situation he agrees to send out 2 new replacement cards the next day (Wednesday) and the install was re-scheduled for 1st June

No cards arrived by June 1

Rang sky. They said the card was posted on Friday (not Wed as promised) and will take at least 7-10 days to arrive in ROI. Note I said CARD not CARDS. Yes, thats right, the idiots only posted out 1 fecking card.

So now my installation date has been re-scheduled for a further 2 weeks and as yet there is still no sign of any sky cards

if this goes on any longer i may even consider (God forbid) getting Chorus....

An installer is not allowed to leave sky equipment in anybody's home with them not switched on & activated because Sky do not know where in the world the equipment could be. The installer will also not get paid if the cards are not activated.

Did he leave boxes with you as screwing in the cable isnt a hard job.
Sky will switch the channels on for you in that instance without the installer being present.Just remind them the story and ask for a supervisor if theres a hum and a haw.
Then threaten to leave them if they still want you to get the installer.

I have never had a problem with Sky.

my last installation, recieved card about 4 days after ordering, was told on the phone that day that the install would happen in two weeks. Heard nothing but installer arrive on time and first call of the morning.

Shop around for SKY different retailers use different engineers and it depends on how busy they are. I worked PT in a place we were selling it and the deal was when you get the card back call us and we then proceed to log a call to the engineer and he was usually their withing 2-3 working days

thats exactly the reason the installer gave me, which i completely understand. what i dont get is why the sky drone kept insisiting that the boxes were left in my house etc. etc.

Simple, because the person in Sky was a drone!

Install went fine, but the new fone extension was badly connected, i had to rewire it myself to get a working internet connection.
Signal strength about 65, quality about 50%.

strangely enough the 2 cards which were alledgedly posted in different weeks (according to sky) arrived on the same day????

the installer comes today at 5.30 to complete the job, hopefully this time tomorrow i will be singing the praises of sky+

Don't bother with the rolleyes - this is common ! On one day in work I received 6 packages from the UK at the same time - they were all posted on different dates (as per postmarks) with the oldest being over 2 weeks and the newest only a few days.

Still think Royal Mail wait until they can fill a ship before they dispatch the mail.. ;-)
