    Making Strange Theatre Company Presents...

    HEDWIG and the ANGRY INCH

    Focus Theatre, 8th-18th June

    http://www.makingstrange.com

Full details on the above website. Tickets are €15 or €10 for
concessions and are on sale through www.centralticketbureau.com

    About the show...

Some electric pink nail polish, a Farrah Fawcett wig, one trashy rock
band, and an East-German transsexual: just another night at the
    theatre, right? Think Again.

Making Strange Theatre Company is thrilled to present the Irish
premiere of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the Obie Award-winning
Off-Broadway sensation that has rocked audiences the world over.
Inspired by Plato's Symposium, Hedwig tells the story of the
'internationally ignored song stylist' Hedwig Schmidt, the victim of a
gruesomely botched sex-change operation. Told in the form of a sleazy
lounge act, and backed by the rocking band 'The Angry Inch', Hedwig is
unlike anything Dublin has seen before. Unflinchingly original,
brutally honest, and strangely addictive, Hedwig is the spectacular
love story that '[knocked] the socks off New York theatre-goers with a
much-needed jolt of twisted pathos and wigged-out histrionics.' (The
    Advocate)

Rich, raw, and with a whole lot of rock, Hedwig is a must-see,
    guaranteed to cause a stir.

Gonna do my best to make it to this one of the nights next week. I was going to go on Thursday but it was sold out. :(
Hope to God I get to see it, 'cos it's my favourite film and I've never had the opportunity to see a production of it in the theatre.

I think Dustin Hoffman played the tanssexual in this before he became famous. If the transsexual is disabled then he definately did.

    The transsexual is not disabled..

Anyway, caught this production on Saturday - very enjoyable and there's a lot of energy put into it. The songs are all delivered with the vibrancy you'd expect after having seen them in the movie.

My only criticism is that the part of Tommy Gnosis was entirely narrated - a third actor could've possibly fulfiflled this better. Still it wasn't too much of a bother and, for 15 quid, I'd recommend this without a second thought.

Can you get tickets at the door? I'm going tonight, would you say it'll be sold out?

I saw it last Tuesday, it was brilliant. I was very skeptical going in about Tommy Gnosis being narrated but I think it worked. There was so much energy put into the performance.

What a shame it's only on once. And on a Tuesday at that.

And that I'm at home with the flu instead of at it. :(
