    X-ray scanners I'd assume.

I'm guessing here, but if it's internationally mailed, it goes through at least one scanner to check for drugs, weapons, and other contraband.
No idea why it would be there for two weeks though...

    rofl hugo!

Disagree with Wertz (Place for checking drugs, contraband etc.) on the basis I know drugs can be posted..
Also a little off topic but; Can liquids be posted? Ive heard yes and no.

You never know maybe they randomly check DVD/CD rom content every now and then to insure it's not child porn etc...
It would seem fair enough if they do. Mind you the whole 1984 things is also at the back of my mind

    *bump*

Surely someone here must have worked in a post office??

Its actually called the imaging section,is this normal for all packages to go there and how long do they usually stay there? im beginning to think the dvds have been forgotten and are in some corner of the post office.

I know drugs can be posted too, but that doesn't mean that packages aren't checked for them and they're more worried about firearms than narcotics TBH. But Spaced Out made the point that it's more of a customs thing than the post office and he's prolly right.
The manual checking/viewing of DVDs is something that crossed my mind especially in these days of global piracy and child pornography. It would explain the 2 weeks wait...

The only other thing that springs to mind is that the staff at this place simply take home the discs and watch them. Saves a fortune in rental fees :D

I'm guessing here, but all mail is scanned for address. The machines can read most printed text. but not hand written stuff, so an image is taken of the address, the envelope is given a barcode and then a human inputs the address on a different computer and the two are matched.
