software used to minimize cost of purchasing items on ebay by not placing bids too early.

The auto bid for you in the remaining second. Sneaky but good to use for cheaper auctions.

Isn't that the same as ebay's maximum bid?
    Can't be much different anyway.
There was one piece of software around alright, but it only allows you3 snipes and then you have to pay for the software.

There's lots around but you have to pay for them all - some offer 10 day trials.

Auctionsniper, hammertap, bidnapper, sniperight are some to name a few.

I've been sniping manually for a couple of years now. And I been about 90% successful, depending on my connection. The higher speed the better.

I just won an auction this evening for some motorbike parts and saved myself about €290 !! :D

I might give some of this software a shot, I'm going after a BMW 316i tomorrow in Germany.

Maximum bid gives other bidders time(days sometimes) to respond with a higher bid than your top bid. Sniping puts a bid up to your maximum bid in just before the auction ends so that you don't have to go and spend more than you want to.
