    Hi,

I am currently working as a contractor and I am trying to assertain whether or not its better to be contracting or PAYE....

Basically what I am trying to figure out is how much take home pay people end up with, so a decent tax calculator that doesnt confuse the hell outta my tiny mind would be nice.

Trying to figure out what earning about 1700 - 1800 a month net is equivalent to in PAYE so I can see if I am being screwed or not. Any help appreciated!!!

    Otto.

If your self employed and "contracting" yourself out, you should really get yourself a good accountant. He will pay for himself in the long run.

Also what's your exact situation? I know one method used by "consultants" is to have a limited company set up that bills person for the company's time and the company then pay's a wage to the consultant. The tax is worked out the same it's just tidier on the books.

I'll have a chat with a few self employed people I know and see what info I can get for you. If you could get me a few more details of what exactly you are doing, how you are being paid etc then it would help me help you :)

    (No personal details needed btw)

    Thats most kind of you!

I use a Management company called CxC - Consultants Exchange who take a 5% fee each month (removed before tax is applied) for their services. Basically I send them my expense reciepts and they do the paperwork.

I am doing IT Helpdesk work at a rate of €16 per hour and I am trying to figure out what the equivalent PAYE yearly earning would be. I seem to end up with about 1800 Net each month.

    Any help appreciated :)
