I posted recently on this topic but my tentative plans have changed somewhat....

Looking at travelling with some mates to Budapest, and from there going to Bratislava > Vienna > Zagreb > Trieste and fly home.

Anyone done this trip before, or have any tips? Also, would it be better to go from Vienna to Ljubljana and then to Zagreb?

Would all these be trains, or would we have to bus it?

We're looking at 2 weeks, spending a couple of days in each place.

I'm being vague, but if anyone has any advice they want to share, go for it!

Bratislava to Vienna is a very short trip (~1hr by train). Budapest to Vienna is also train. Have a look at www.oebb.at (click the fahrplanabfrage button in the bottom left). Vienna -> Villach -> Zagreb seems the quickest connection but via budapest might be cheapest (buying a return in Budapest would be a lot cheaper than buying a ticket in Vienna). I'm also not sure on the connections for Trieste but you'll probably have to connect in Ljubliana or maybe Rijeka. Hope that helps.
