I'm thinking of getting one. Does anyone have any experience of Samsung laptops? Is there a big performance difference between the M730 & M740 because there is a big price difference.

I have the x50 and it's an excellent laptop. It's well built, looks good and has very good components and is light and thin also! It came with excellent recovery CD's, very easy to install. I wanted to partition my hardrive so I did a fresh install, so simple!

Go here to do a comparison:
    http://www.samsung.co.uk

There's a fair bit of difference.
The 740 has a dedicated graphics card, 512Mb of mem, 60Gb hard disk, dvd writer.
The 730 has shared memory graphics, 216Mb of mem, 40Gb hard disk, dvd rom.

If you are not playing games or running processor intensive apps then the 730 is a good option!

    You'll get better prices here:

Thanks for the info Jester. Digiuk does a 730 also with 512mb mem and 60gb hdd for 800 sterling. It looks like a good deal. I'd be mainly using excel and surfing - nothing too heavy so I guess a 730 would be more than enough. It looks like a lovely laptop, just haven't heard much about them. Something to do with the fact nobody seems to sell them here? Looks like i'll have to get it from the UK unless you know of anywhere.

I was originally looking at getting the X25 and DigiUK were the best price. However I needed 1Gb of RAM so when I added that to the price it became more expensive than the X50. The X50 had the same spec with a better CPU and was widescreen so I ended up choosing that. DigiUK were the cheapest but couldn't confirm when they would have it so I got it from Insight.

They were more expensive, about €80 but I had it in a few days, excellent service.

730 sounds like the best choice for you!
Not sure where you will get a review for the x20, but try here and do a search:

Stupid firewall here won't even let me open the search page, so don't know if there are any reviews  It's mainly US people that use this and Samsung don't release their laptops there so that's why it's hard to find reviews.

Do Digiuk and Insight deliver to Ireland? Anybody know what the deal is with business (VAT) purchases? Do they charge VAT at all. If not, where does it come through your books? (Sorry - probably wrong thread to be discussing this but just thought someone might be in same position.).

If they were ex-vat I would definitely go for the more expensive X20 model. They look fantastic but as you say nobody sells them in Ireland so its hard to see a display model!

I emailed digiuk and thay said delivery to Ireland was £15 + Vat (uk vat i guess). Not sure about the VAT as a business purchase. They should ship exempt if you give them your Vat number. Best thing to do is email them, they reply pretty quick. If they won't exempt the Vat you should still be able to claim it back here from International VAT repayment section in Ennis, you can call them and they'd tell you.

I'm writing this on my X05 I picked up about 18 months ago.

I have to say its the best laptop i've ever had.

Its exceptionally well built and its much more slimline than anything dell could do, plus it weighs a feather.

The big winner for me though is that it so quiet, you'd hardly hear the fan run in it.

I recently bought a dell desktop, but its build quality is disappointing because i'm so used to my samsung.

I'd recommed samsung and next time I buy a laptop i'll try to go for samsung again.
