Does anyone know how valid your passport has to be going to lanzarote? I have heard both 6 and 3 months mine is only valid for 5.

Can anybody throw a little light on this situation for me?

Well, if Lanzarote is part of Spain, then technically you don't need a passport.

Other than that, so long as it's valid when you're coming home, it shouldn't be an issue. Why would they bother putting expiry dates on them if they're just going to be ignored?

I had thought that myself until a friend of mine said that for Prague you defiantly have to have 6 months validity left on your passport and for Amsterdam you need 3.

For any country in the EU it doesn't matter as long as the passport is valid for the duration of your stay. 5 months is fine. If you're really worried then phone the spanish embassy.

you do still need a passport...

the free travel area in the eu only means you don't need a visa , nothing to do with your passport... the ireland/uk travel is a different aggrement waving the need for a passport....

I was in Lanzarote in 2003, the guy at immigaration didn't even look at ours, we held them up to him and he waved us on, However there was british citizens on the flight too and they had their passports checked and stamped. Bring back as much cheap booze and fags as you can, there awfully cheap, you can seel them here for a profit. HIRE A CAR whatever you do, and visit all the island, avoid the reps excursions tours as they are a rip off and if you wanna take a tour take it from one of the ones advertised all over the place, they are much cheaper and you get the smae thing. Visit the Mirador Del Rio in the northern tip of the island it has the most breathtaking views, and also visit teguise market on sundays if your interested in fake rolex watches and counterfeit football jerseys, it also has some lovely pieces of african art being sold by funnily enough africans.
Enjoy your holiday if you get there !

    Regards netwhizkid

PS the food is cheap too, although the place is more like a retirement destination than an Ibiza type place though. That actually might suit depending on yourself.

I phone the Spanish embassy they said as long as it valid for the duration of the stay and one day after I come back its ok.

Cheers for all the help folks.

One more question does anybody know what the weight allowance on flights from Dublin with budget travel are?

Most Budget flights are operated by Futura.
Two weeks ago I travelled from Lanzarote to Ireland by Futura and they
were strictly enforcing the checked baggage allowance of 20 kgs per passenger. Anything over 20kgs is charged at 6 Euro per kilo.
So go easy on the shopping!

Forgot to say that on all Futura flights operated on behalf of Budget Travel
there is now NO meal provided. This even applies to flights to the Canaries.
For some reason Budget do not advise passengers of this.
If you need food you can buy sandwiches for 4 euro and coffee for 2 euro.

I flew with Budget & Futura a couple of months ago, it is 20Kgs. Just wanted to second the info about the extra weight - its 6 euro a kilo and they are VERY strict about it.
