Well I've just returned from my first cash game, in fact my first game in a casino. It's practically still bright outside, though, so things didn't go too well!

    I chose tonight's €100+10 for 2 reasons
    1. I can afford it :)
    2. I figured that with that high a stake there'd be less of a field, and certainly less smurfs. I was right, there was about 28 all in, I think.

I played it nice 'n' tight, won a couple hands (in fact, won exactly 2, I think :)). Then with a pair of 10s, put all but 50 into the pot (2600, I think). I was called all-in by 2 to my left. Seemed like a no-brainer. He had QQ. Aaah. Still a chance. Flop was muck. Turn: Q. That's it, game over. The river was a 5 I think but it made no diff. Out after 40 mins (the bell had just gone for the next level change). Oh well.

I don't think I did anything wrong, just unlucky. Not a bad beat, and at least I wasn't there until 4am and then lose to 3Qs. I need my beauty sleep :D

Anyway, enjoyed myself. The Macau is a nice place, and the staff are all friendly enough. Anyone players I spoke to seemed sound enough, no prima donnas or poker purists. I doubt it'll be the 100+10 will be a regular thing, might try the smaller cash tournies instead, but I'll def be going back. They owe me a hundred euro :)

hey corblimey..... im pretty new to poker... well I've been playing for years (home games) but am only starting to really get playing now. I have been thinking about heading into the macau, which seems to be the only place in cork to get a game, for a while now. What other game structures do they have there, and how regular are they.

Just for your info, do you know that there is a €10000 guaranteed tourney on every monday in the Rochestown Park Hotel. Its a pretty big field, with a mixture of fish, and good players. Generally there is a couple of pros there... but thats it. I havent been along yet, but a good friend of mine came 4th or 5th one night. And it was his first live tournement ever!

anyhow... if u could let me know a bit about the macau id be gratefull.

Also... not meaning to be critical.. but going all in with pocket 10s in middle position is a dangerous play....

Hey jimbling, all I can tell you about the Macau is that they have cash tournies almost every night. 100+10, 50, 20 and 10 are all catered for, so I would assume you get the standard ratio of fish and pros depending on the fee. Everyone last night seemed very competent players. Even the 3 that went out before me seemed to go out on somewhat bad beats.

If you drop in, I found the guy at the desk (doorman? manager?) there very friendly and very approachable. They have a little leaflet that shows all the games they play each week. All games register at 8.30 for 9 and as I said, there's a game every night, except Wednesday I think.

Anyhoo, yeah, maybe going all in on TT was foolish, but after 40mins of watching relatively poor hands (small pairs, Ace high and even a Jack high!) get good odds, I was feeling a little foolish :)

They're also opening a brand new room next door (600 seats?) so I'm sure they'll be doing a lot more STT and satellites.
