Does anyone know if NTL plan to offer interactive tv here? I figure now that they have broadband in most places that means that they could now offer interactive services.

NTL were supposed to launch interactive 3 years ago, as they are pulling out in a few months, I doubt they'll bother now, let's just hope the new crowd provide a better service, they can hardly make any worse, can they???

Well I doubt the interactive, if launched, will be anything spectacular. Only a few 1000 boxes (Di4000 series) have in built cable modems for interactive through the cable - a few 10000 of the silver 400 series boxes have PSTN dial up modems, and the new 200 series box they are using has no modem at all! So you'd need a phoneline and then be hit with charges, unless they want to give everyone broadband modems and forfeit the scart connection to provide RS232 connections through it.......

My parents have an old (digital) NTL STB which has both RS232 and RJ45 connections. In the UK they replaced the STBs I would imagine they could do that here. It is another thing that sky offer that NTL do not.

Well they are sort-of replacing the old STBs with new ones, but they are the Pace 200 ones with no modem of any description in them. Perhaps if NTL pull out, they may take ALL the boxes with them for use in the UK, but I can't really see that happening. The Pace Di4000 series, AFAIK, is no longer being shipped to Ireland........

and the new 200 series box they are using has no modem at all!

Possibly explains why said box (DC210) is less than a quarter of the size of the Di4010, and is a great deal smaller than even the Di300. A neighbour of mine has just had the new boxes installed and to say that they are tiny, well my box looks like a giant next to it.

NTL Incorporated, incidently, have already left the Republic of Ireland. NTL Communications (Ireland) Limited is now owned by Morgan Stanley, although they have a licence to continue to use the NTL name for now, pending their resale to UPC.

A bit like National Irish Bank, who have removed the green star from their logo, which is like the red star of their former parent, National Australia Bank.
