Sometimes I check MSN.com, you know, to see what the best 2006 SUVs are and 5 tips for a succeful date. Yes, it's mostly crap. Today I checked and it's all old-school text only, like Netscape 1.0. Last Friday it worked fine with Firefox.

This could suck if they decide to stop firefox support also for Hotmail. Just my thoughts.

@captain trips: works fine for me with firefox, you running the lastest version?

    um. It works for me.

I don't see myself moving from firefox any time soon. I HATE IE. Opera doesn't impress me much tbh. Tabbed browsing is too convenient

    I am actually.
Not to derail too much but Firefox's proxy support is buggy as hell. Thats my main reason for avoiding it.
It randomly fails to resolve domain names even when the proxy should do it.

Surely you notice the difference in speed?

No not at all really. Download speed or rendering speed?

Rendering, in IE its disgustingly slow!

Weird, it's working again now. It was like browsing with lynx.

    <geek time>
Sometimes a page is not downloaded in it's entirety, and this can include the attached stylesheet: therefore removing most, if not all, formatting and displaying what appears to be plain text. I need to get out more.

Clearing your cache fixes this if you get it a lot too.

well, i use both, and tbh, i prefer IE.

i think most people use firefox because its cooler or something.

i use IE becuase it does exactly what i ask it to. every time.

I ditched them both for Opera.
I like different things about IE and firefox.
When IE7 comes along with tabs i'll give it a spin again.

I think people are changing to Firefox because they have got sick of having their machines riddled with adware and spyware just from using IE. IE is just way too vunerable and the only reason so widely used is that Microsoft were very sly and incorporated into to Windows, so that it came pre installed on most new machines.

Anyway for anyone using Firefox here's a couple of little tweeks I stumbled upon the other day. That make FF even faster.

Open Firefox 1.0 and in the address bar type: about:config

    1. Find browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs and double click on it so it = true
    2. Find network.http.pipelining and double click on it so it = true
    3. Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests double click on it and change it from 4 to 100

    What do these changes do?
    1. Then enables advanced tab options in your Tools/Options page
    2. This enables option #3.
    3. This makes FF use 8 threads to each page.. Bascially, if you thought FF was fast before, try it after this.

    yes those sneaky microsoft people.
how dare they try and improve their products!

someday you will all find out the great conspiracy that has been going on, but not today...
    :)

besides, ive got a 2mg cable connection at home, speed is not an issue for me :)

Becareful with your pipelining and max requests settings. Many web servers do not support piplining correctly. Also some web servers may be configured to block your client because you attempt to send so many concurrent requests.

True, but IE4 etc were much better then netscape at that stage anyway
