how to get into archery

    Howdy folks,

I had a look at archery.ie, and the only clubs that seem to be in galway are college clubs (GMIT & NUIG). Do either accept non-student members? And if so, do they have introduction/tryout type seesions at any particular time of the year?

Have always wanted to try archery out, maybe I 'd like firing a pointy stick at things. :D

I am a member of the GMIT archery club and during the year (unsure about now) archery sessions were held on friday evenings for non students. you could email Paul Burke he would be able to tell you for sure if they are still being held over the summer. paul.burke@gmit.ie

As an nuig member, we (unfortunately) cant accept non-students. we looked into it before and we can only accept students attending the college. its a real pity that galway has not got a non-college club

Too right. A stand alone club would be good for everyone in Galway but a pain in the thingamabob to set up.

As one of the old Clubs & Socs hacks there are two other categories of members you can have aside from current students of the college. Staff can join and former students can be made honorary lifetime members.

Interesting, how do we go about doing this officially?

Are you a graduate of NUIG? If you are I'll check if graduates can shoot at the training times. With no undergrads here at the moment you won't have to share a bow!
