The Drogheda tournament is on again. Thurs 2nd June. Registration opens at 7.30pm. Cards in the air 8.30pm. The last event payed out over €7000

    Entry €50
    Rebuys for 1 hr €50
    Top up €50

Starting chips 1500 rebuy chips 1500 Top up 2500

12.5% of pool is allocated for costs.

Once again this is self dealt. We are working towards training some local dealers. The final table will be dealt by a dealer.

    Bar is open until 12.30pm

    Play must finish by 2.30pm.

    Structure as follows:

Blind structure. 15 min break after Level 3, 10 mins after levels 9 & 14

    Level Blinds Time (mins)
    1 25/50 20
    2 50/100 20
    3 75/150 20
    4 100/200 15
    5 150/300 15
    6 200/400 15
    7 300/600 15
    8 400/800 15
    9 500/1000 15
    10 800/1500 15
    11 1000/2000 15
    12 1500/3000 15
    13 2000/4000 15
    14 3000/6000 15
    15 5000/10000 15
    16 8000/16000 15
    17 10000/20000 Until Finished

The last event had 76 players, we are expecting more this time so a bigger payout is likely. In the event over 500,000 chips are in play then level 8 will be removed and an extra levels of 15000/30000 and 20000/40000 will be added to allow a conclusion.

Don't think I'll make it tonight, have to plan for an early night as I'm in a few hours early tomorrow morning. Good luck to all boardsters who play :)

Sorry, Mike, I've a hurling match in the bog that is Meath tonight. I'll hopefully make the next one. (not much poker for me until after September, I fear...)

    Sorry Mike,

but for a 50 quid rebuy the time structure is too tight. especially as its self-dealing. I think you should aim at starting it at 8pm and having the blinds at 20 mins all the way till the last table where u can increase the blinds as players get knocked out. that would encourage deal making.

i can't justify spending 100-150 when its guys who have been drinking who are dealing. if i hadnt have taken over the dealing at my table last time it would have been most unpleasant.

just giving some honest feedback, hope u don't mind, d.

No Problem Doc. Most tournies outside the big smoke are self dealt. In fact a lot of card clubs in the Uk are self dealt. All the tournies in this area are self dealt. Once we have a idea of what the numbers are going to be on a regular basis then we will be supplying dealers to suit.

The structure is tight enough but we have to finish by a set time. I have changed from last time and added a couple of levels and lengthened the 1st 3 levels and set the rest at 15mins. I will see how this one goes and maybe your idea of increasing the blinds as players are knocked out at the final table will then be employed. I would rather try and find a structure that works using times though. There is a possibility if numbers are high enough we can get a bar extension & a later finish time but that is for the future.

All your suggestions are welcome - keep them coming.

BTW Doc the next one on 16th June is only €25 buy in and €25 rebuy.

    cheers Mike,

i'll play a 25 rebuy with that structure.
    enjoy Vegas!

It was another good night. Not as many runners as anticipated though. Combination of factors. Bank holiday will have affected it, 3 heavy drinking days to budget for! Plus maybe €50 rebuy is a bit much every to weeks in Drogheda. I have a feeling the Bank holiday had more to do with it though.

In the end 44 runnerscoughed up enough in rebuys for us to payout just shy of €4000. Bigdragon ended up chopping 3 ways with Ned and Anthony from Drogheda for €900 each. Standard of play was slightly better and there was no-one really drunk this time!

As no dealers came up to play I had to deal the final table myself and I am rigged! Dave I expect a pint for dealing Junior AK on the big blind when you have raised with AA.

Michael who called for all his chips bar 500 with JJ when the small blind went all in on his big is not too happy as I turned a King for the K9 to take it. I also managed a flop of 7xJ when AJ vs A7 and a 7 on the turn for the all in player!

From now on it will alternate between a €50 and €25 rebuy fortnightly.

Them dealers (aka poker entrepreneurs) up in bandit country are fantastic.

I'll never hear another word against Shortstack.

    ;):p

Another well run tournie with decent enough play with a mix of solid players, Ax merchants (even 2 Kx merchants on my table!) and all-in 'specialists' and one guy who got progressively drunker but still knew how to play position etc - them's wiley people up there :)

    Well done Mike.

Mike, would the fact you are clashing with Red Cow(which is also every second thursday) be a factor in your numbers being down?
For the summer I have to change some thursdays to tuesdays to accomodate the hotel, but for the future would it not make sense to have different dates to maximise attendance.
    Fintan.

I would not have thought that we draw from the same player pools too much Fintan. The game here is aimed more at the local players who play the odd sit and go in a pub and want a taste of a multi table.
A huge percentage would not go and play unless they can combine it with a beer.
Also are schedule was chosen taking into account the hotels other bookings and switching it would mean having to change nights too often.
I am sure a few from this area will go to your tournie and a few from Dublin will come to ours but overall I think they are far enough apart and there are enough players for both.
Overall we are pleased with the numbers so far, our catchment area is tiny compared to Dublin or even Cork & Limerick. We also want to build slowly, allowing us to learn from any mistakes we make without affecting the game too much. Our target for this tournament was 100 regular players and we did not expect to reach it within the first few tournaments.
However this does not mean we will not change the night at some point. A few players have asked why we don't do them on a Friday so they don't have work in the morning. Simply it is because it is nigh on impossible to get a hotel on a Friday here due to Weddings/Birthdays etc.

Best of luck to you, I'm sure you will achieve your numbers. If you are interested in awarding tickets to any of our bigger events(freezeouts) let me know. I can also do up package deals, hotel accomodation and ticket to event.
